Up for sale here is my Kramer XL 8 string bass. Price is $775, plus actual shipping. This model is pretty rare, and they are getting harder and harder to find as the years go by, especially one in this shape. Made circa 1980, this is a 24 fret aluminum-neck 8-string bass. The neck has wood inserts for a warmer feel - warmer than bare metal. The strings are octave-pairs, like on a 12 string guitar, tuned E_A_D_G. Tuning for the primary strings is setup like a standard bass with the strings running through the bridge to tuning pegs on the aluminum headstock. Tuning for the octave strings is done in reverse, with the strings running from the headstock to the bridge, and through to guitar-sized tuning pegs at the heel of the bass. Electronics are configured as two bass humbuckers (DiMarzio?) with volume/tone controls for each. Also has 3 switches: 3-way pickup selector, and coil tap for each pickup.

www.schneiderguitars.com - and is truly one of the more amazing sounding basses I have ever heard. The aluminum neck means that it sustains for DAYS. New bone nut also customized and installed by Dave. Played clean the bass sounds almost piano-like, with a bright ringing tone. Played pushed or with a fuzz an entirely different sound is achieved and it sounds like a full heavy band playing all at once. The action is amazing. Tuners are Schaller and they are as solid as the rest of the bass. The bass is heavier than many, due to the aluminum neck, but not overbearing at all (not much different than a 70s Les Paul), and it balances well on a strap. There are a few light scratches and small dings here and there, nothing major - and pretty good for a 30 year old bass. Included is a custom-fitted hardshell case in decent shape I have been the owner of this bass for about the past 6 or 7 years.
