Lakland 44-51 USA

Here's a rare bird!

Looking through the sold basses thread, I couldn't find another USA 44-51 that's been sold.

Here's a new one on Bass Club Chicago
http://bassclubchicago.bizland.com/store/page6.html

This thing is still in GREAT condition. I dig just about everything about this bass, except for the lack of contours. I play quite high and it's a little uncomfortable, cramping my style

It's not heavy. I do not have a scale.
The one on bass central is 8lbs
http://www.basscentral.com/lakeland_...usa_2011.shtml

Comes in a really cool tweed Lakland OHSC. I'd like to see 2k shipped.

I had the first one. It wasn't considered a prototype, but the stir it cause generated what became the 44-51. So it became known as the proto .

Does yours have a Lakland/Hanson pickup?

Great pickup!! Mine came with a pickup that the builder put together, but I switched it out promptly for a split '51 Fralin and loved it! Should've kept that bass!

Old style is right!! It's a sweet pup. Sounds good in a lot of applications. Has a surprising difference in tone between finger and pick, lots of good in favor of this bass. It actually wouldn't be too expensive/crazy to have Lakland make me a "modern" body for this...

The lack of contours is the ONLY thing that bothers me about this bass. It's just a killer instrument! Feel, sound, looks...it's all there!

So the thickness is like the other laklands?? Not "vintage" profile. Which I believe is a D shape.

44-51="1st Fret Neck Depth.87" (.77" optional)"

Hollow-body = 1st Fret Neck Depth .8"

That's right. Hollowbody necks are slimmer by feel...this one has got to be the .87" deal.

Best I can tell, is it's all default measurements according to the site. I do know that not many were made and I'm guessing that most of them went to dealers, so probably very very few customized 44-51's exist.

Yeah, neck dimensions felt the same as a 44-94 to me when I had the proto.

Man... I played this bass the other day, and it RULES.

It nails the single-coil P sound, and the neck? Daaaaayum!!!! Fast, comfy, and gorgeous (birdseye maple, ya'll!!). If I didn't have too many basses, I'd be jumping on this like a fat kid on a trampoline.

In hindsight, that analogy makes no sense.

The bass is great.
Lee is a great dude and seller.
He takes great care of his stuff.
Stop hesitating and buy this before I change my mind!
