Lakland 55-01, Nordstrand DCs, Bart NTMB Preamp

Sign in to disble this ad
FINDER'S FEE - If you refer somebody to this classified and they buy the bass for full price ($800 shipped) then I will paypal you 5% ($40) or if you just want to buy the bass outright, will sell for $760 shipped to CONUS.

Need to move this, got another bass coming in.

NO TRADES PLEASE. NEED CASH.

Inca Silver 55-01 in great shape. Upgraded to Nordy Double Coils (parallel wound) with coil tap switch to select, single coil/parallel/series.

Preamp upgraded to Bart NTMB vol (pull passive) / blend/treble/mid/bass arrangement w/5 knobs.

Ash body. Rosewood board. Maple neck.

Weight is 10 lbs. (barely) via bathroom scale method.

Absolute tone monster. However, I am going four string exclusively (and this time I mean it). However, I am going to get a bass nearly identical to this one except w/4 strings.

Bought off Talkbasser PS Pookie.

This is an amazing instrument that covers any and all styles. Really versatile. In amazingly great condition also.

Professionally set up by local luthier Rich Beck (Home - Beck's Guitar Specialty Services) and has super low action. Practically plays itself.

Asking $800 shipped.

I bought this bass new from Bass Central and I did the pickup swap. This is a good one and you won't be disappointed. I've got sound clips if anyone is interested.

No the tuners aren't changed out. At least I don't think so. IIRC the earlier Skylines had the Y style instead of the cloverleafs.

Hi. Who did the pickups change to the bass? Would you explain the sonic difference to me, please?

Previous owner did the pick up swap.
Differernce between these and the stock pickups is like the difference between hamburger and filet mignon.

Basically the Nordstrands are smoother, more open, and sound much better, no harshness.

Many folks have done this exact pickup swap and all have raved about how great it is.

In series the pickups are very warm and dark sounding. In parallel they're a lot more mid-rangey sounding.

In single coil, they sound like the nastiest J-bass pickups you're ever heard.

Bump for a very sweet bass...and an pups answer for bebo:

I have a 55-01, also modded with the Nordy dual-coils. If you leave them as is, they are fantastic hum-canceling pups. Incremental tone advantage over the original Barts (probably Korean-made MK-1s that come standard in this bass, though, given the tuners, it might be old enough that there were slightly different pups...later Skylines have the full-size cloverleaf Hipshot licensed versions).

The cool additional thing you can do with the dual coils is wire them with a DPDT (on-on-on three way) switch. If you do this for both pups, you get an additional 2 hum-canceling modes (two coils from each pup that are opposite in magnetic polarity), 4 single coil modes, and 2 dual coil non hum-canceling modes (the two coils from each pup that match magnetic polarity). That's lots of additional tone options, just from pup selection. Gives the passive and active mode of your pre a whole lot of goodness. I just added the switches to my 55-01, and added a Mike Pope FlexCore pre...this bass is now totally (and tonally!) rockin.

David, GLWTS...[EDIT: And you answered as I was...]

I just did the same preamp upgrade to mine. Saving up to add some Nordies as well. These are great basses when upgraded! Somebody give this bass a new home!
