SOLD!
It pains me to sell this beauty, but I'm trying to reduce the herd a little and it makes sense to do so before I move to a new apartment in a few weeks.
I purchased this bass brand new in December '08 (it has a November '08 serial number, it's made in Indonesia and it has been Plek'd) after requesting that Lakland install humbucking Chi-sonics with an option for single-coil operation. (That's a $200 upgrade.) In order to avoid cutting into the gorgeous trans-burgundy finish to install a toggle switch, Carl Pedigo of Lakland put a push/pull switch on the tone knob.
This bass gets an impressive range of tones. The mahogany body and the Chis are a wonderful, punchy combination--I know owner John Pirrucello digs this combo. The humbucking Chis sound huge: fat like the Dark Star, but with a little grunt and more mids. In single-coil mode, it doesn't sound quite as full and growly as a bass equipped simply with single-coil Chis, but that's where EQ comes in.B) Both pickups are very usable soloed IMO, and I'm normally not a fan of soloing a bridge pickup.
This bass is quite minty in condition. I can't find any dings, only swirling on the pickguard. It's been kept in my smoke-free home, safely in its Lakland=branded SKB hardshell case (which comes with the bass in this sale!) when not being played. The case, too, is in excellent condition.
