This bass sounds resonant and acoustical unplugged...it literally rings out. This bass was hand crafted by a Luthier working out of the foothills of Blueridge Mountains of Viriginia. Guitars and basses made one at a time, for a lifetime of enjoyment. The finest tonewood from the USA and beyond were selected to meld into a tonal masterpiece. Pictures do not do this Bass justice.
It is an extremly well made Bass and looks great, especially with the combination of woods. Mahogany body, Book Matched Flammed Maple Top, Rock Maple Neck and a Cocobolo Fretboard with 12 degree radius and Mother of Pearl Fret and Side Position Markers. The scale is 34" with 21 frets. The Bass weighs in at exactly 10 lbs. The hardware is all quality stuff.
It comes with EMG-JV Jazz pickups...EMG's top shelf Vintage Jazz pickups and an 18-volt EMG 2-Band preamp: blend, volume, treble/bass stack. The fourth knob and pot is there but is not connected to anything. I was going to order the EMG pots or the BTS system to make the bass volume, blend, treble, bass.
Here's what EMG says about their JV pickups:
The JV uses a mixture of old, new, and late model design ideas and was developed to deliver the classic tone and look of the traditional Jazz Bass. It still maintains the "faded" attack of the offset pole pieces in combination with our lowest noise preamp. The EMG-JV should appeal to the "retro" in you, while the coil and electronic design will convince you that this is the pickup for you.
The only flaw on the bass is where the neck and the body comes together, a piece chipped off, can be easily repaired, barely noticeable. I have included a picture. I do not have a case or gigbag for this bass, but I am an expert packer and I can assure you your bass will be packed as I would like to receive my dream bass packaged. I have never had a problem.
