Matsumoku Vantage VS600B Made in Japan

As GAS continues to take its hold on me, I continue to liquidate some of my duplicate basses…

For sale is another one of my Vantage VS-600B basses. Made at the Matsumoku factory. This is a 1980 in the dark stain and in very clean condition.

This is a very beautiful precision style bass. For those not familiar, these basses were mass marketed during Fender's "Dark Years" (the early 80’s) when many people associated Fender with poor quality control and an "antiquated" mass-marketed design. I remember it seemed that all Fender owners did in those days was replace parts-- pickups first, then pots, then bridges, etc. I remember my first teacher so well- he had a Fender P bass with almost every single part replaced!

This bass puts a different spin on the P bass. Similar tone but more "boutique" sounding due to the high quality wood and finish, and of course with the classical looks and panache that come with! The factory precision style pickups in this bass were modeled after DiMarzios which were the premium and preferred pickup of choice in those days and what most Fender players were swapping for.

This bass is in some ways a Gibson SG/Fender P Hybrid looks-wise and design-wise. It has a 3 point bridge and symmetrical body. A very interesting bolt on neck pocket design resembles a set neck more than a traditional bolt-on. Put flats on this (as I have on some of my other Vantages including this very same model) and it just thumps! It also has a medium scale of 820mm which equates to about 32.25 inches. This bass is very easy to play, especially for long sessions due to it’s smaller scale and lighter weight despite its huge tone!

This bass is in great condition overall and all original with the exception of the strap lock buttons that were installed by a previous owner (sorry, I don't have spare "male" parts to include). There are some incredibly minor dings as pictured. The only one worthy of note is the ding on the side of the neck between the 7th and 8th frets as pictured. Otherwise, I think you will agree that it is unusual to find a 30+ year old bass in such great condition.

I am asking $SOLD shipped anywhere in the CONUS. If you are outside the CONUS the price will be higher as shipping is considerably higher so OM me to see what we can work out. This includes a gig bag which is brand new (still has the tags on it) and I pack bomb proof so she will get to you safe and sound.

I am not interested in trades at this point as this sale is to finance more recent GAS-related purchases.

I think this just about covers everything. Please PM me if you have any interest or questions.

Thanks for looking.

RBM

To the top for best offers. This is a beauty of a bass with top notch build quality as you would expect from a Matsumoku. And it sounds killer.

Bump for a really well written description of a nice looking bass.
I'm not in a buyin' mood, but thanks for teaching me something.

I have always wanted a Japanese made P style bass.

This thing is just outrageously good looking.
