Teisco del Rey Violin Bass ~~$400~~ ~~$350~~ $300 OBO

For sale is my Teisco del Rey FB-2 (thanks Iriegnome!). Based on internet research, this is a 1968 model. Overall the bass is in great playing shape. I had the bass setup and intonated within the last month. Also had the pots and wiring checked over. The foam on the mute was also replaced. There is also a new set of Fender flatwounds on the bass-- .105 E string.

Condition: lots of weather checking, scratches, some dings, some pitting of the chrome, some of the tuners turn a bit hard, missing logo plate, 1 metal indicator ring. Aside from the missing parts, I would consider the wear and checking about average for a 42 year old bass.

Sound: big bottom boom. Soloing the bridge pickup brings a little more treble to the sound. Raising or lowering the mute can really change the sound. With the mute down tight you get a quick decay that's very effective on country and rockabilly songs.

Full hollowbody, arched top and back
Laminated neck, 21 frets, rosewood fretboard
Short scale
2 pickup
3 position pickup switch
Controls: V/T/V

I'm mainly interested in selling. The proceeds will go toward paying off my Birdsong Sadhana, which is nearing completion.

I would only consider trading for a solidbody short or medium scale bass of similar value.

Thanks bobba! It plays and sounds great, especially with the change to flatwounds.

I've brought it to a few gigs, but the sound just doesn't work with the band I'm in. I'm also trying to get down to 5 basses.
