Mike Browne Fretless 6 String Milo!

Sign in to disble this ad
Check out this craftsmanship! 36" scale 6 String, 2 octave lined fretless from Mike Browne (who previously worked with Carl Thompson)

From the pics I've seen of his others, in my opinion this was one of his best pieces! I'm selling because I'm being relentless in my efforts to simplify, trim down & consolidate my collection this year. I have 2 Mike Browne fretless basses (my other is the 32" fretless Gnome in the "for sale" section shown as sold at the top). At this point in time combined with the other basses I have 2 of these kind of fretless basses seems overkill for me. I decided to simplify & only have one fretless bass.

Body
Honduran Mahogany core, Gaboon Ebony top, Walnut back, Padouk center top, Canary center back, Maple center block stripes
Electronics
1 Nordstrand Fatstack six string pickup, and an Aguilar OBP-1 2 band preamp
Neck
Quarter-sawn Hardrock Maple, Ebony fingerboard with walnut fret markers, Padouk headstock veneers
Hardware
Wooden single piece bridge with string threw anchor, Black Hipshot Ultralite tuners, and black Hipshot O-ring knobs

Mike Browne isn't making basses anymore but some of his website is still up, Browne Basses. Go to Gallery then the third bass from the bottom, Milo "Casey" and you can also see some pics from when the bass was in progress.

It's still in FLAWLESS cosmetic condition. Very very technically, the only thing I could find under close scrutiny was tiny a hairline scratch on the surface of the clear coat in the middle of the back side. It doesn't show up in pics, & you won't even see it in person either unless put under florescent light or direct sunlight & I pointed it out to you to look very closely at an angle looking across the surface.

Thanks to the 36" scale, pickup placement & the wooden bridge it has the most woody, fullest, upright-like tone of any solid body fretless I've played. For a 6 string it comes in at a featherweight 8.2 lbs & has a THIN body (think Carl Thompson)

$3750 shipped to the CONTUSA.

Wow!
This bass is gorgeous but it is too long for me.
I'll buy your 32 incher though !
Seriously.

Sorry, the other bass is not for sale. That's what I questioned too before I bought this. But I actually do quite well with the scale length on this one & I have small hands. It didn't take long at all getting used to.

Thanks for the bump!

Congratulations to the new owner whoever he/she is.
Playing a Browne bass is a real treat.
70sJazz, please drop me a PM if you ever want to sell the 32 incher!
