Took in this J5 on a trade. It does the J sound
really well! Bandmates all commented on its tone. Sat in the mix fine, in all three modes!
The tone control has been replaced with a three way series/single coil neck only/parallel switch.
Standard mode is all J bass, center is single coil neck only ( raw throaty J bass, my fav even with the hum) , and series (or is it parallel ?) is a big fat humbucker sound with much more output than either the other modes. All cool voices you can switch on the fly.
Bass has a few nicks on the horn as I've tried to show in pics. The pickguard is from an SX and had to be clearanced to fit. This beautiful blue bass needs a nice contrasting color like white or cream pearl for that pickguard. Even black pearl.
It has some older D'Addario nickle rounds on it. Setup as best I can. The neck required shimming to get the action up near as low as I like it. (shown in pic at neck joint) It will require re shimming if you like your action way low. If you prefer your action medium or a bit high, this is an excellent player.
No fret issues, all notes ring well. Great sound.
I'll miss this one even though I havent had it around enough to get to know yet. The switchable pups I found to be such natural way for a passive only player to go. My first gig bass,, a Peavey T40 has a feature like that. Well I went and bought another 5 string that was factory that way. So the pretty blue MIM J5 must go to pay for another.
Priced for sale only at $290.
THNX for looking.
