On the fence about this one- it for a long time was one of my "I will never sell basses"... but I ordered a new Mark King bass...so I am thinking of letting this bass go.
This bass as I understand was purchased by a military service person in Germany during the 80s. It has had a refret done by John Diggins (the buider) himself at some point. I purchased the bass from Daryl Jones here in Indy. Prior to me owning the bass it suffered a headstock casulty and was repaired. I have never in the 4 years I have owned the bass had ANY issue with the neck/repair it has been solid- though I use .95-.40 gauge strings. The repair was well done- however the finish around the repaired area has never been repainted- It was always on my list of things to do..but never quite happened.
This bass sounds WONDERFUL and plays even better - 3 band eq with passive tone control full active bypass. Nails the Mark King tone- and is one of the most versitile basses I have owned-
I am asking $1200 shipped US 48 in a hard case.
As far as trades go..really only things I would be after is another Spector NS-2 or a 1970s jazz (refins/mods ok and at this price point expected)
I am posting some quick pics of the bass- I will provide detail shots partulalry of the repair upon request just PM me your e-mail.
Thanks! |

After that ( and before that ) all his basses have been very reliable and used by many artists. But of course this unfortunate episode created this reputation of "high maintenance instruments" that did not deserve.
I own my JD since 2+ years and I had to adjust the truss rod 2 or 3 times.
Hope this helps to understand these rumors.

Hope this helps to understand these rumors. | I don't think it was a bad batch of wood, but a change to a different (smaller) type of trussrod that he thought would be better than the one he was using at the time. It wasn't, but the problems did not become apparent until instruments were in the hands of their new owners. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
