Modded MTD Z5 w/ Bartolinis & Audere preamp - $700 shipped CONUS

Sign in to disble this ad
Selling my MTD 5-string, complete with upgraded Bartolini pickups and Audere 3ZB 18-volt preamp (with fresh batteries). I bought this bass from its previous owner about 6 months ago for some 5-string-specific theater gigs I was doing, and just not finding myself using it enough anymore to justify keeping it. MTD's Z series are a great value for the money, and the relative weaknesses of the instrument have been corrected with the upgraded pickups and preamp. Asking $700 shipped CONUS. Willing to ship elsewhere in the world, too--just PM me for shipping costs.

The bass features, per MTD's site:

35" scale
- 24 medium jumbo frets
- Zero fret 1-3/4" wide, 5-string
- One-piece neck with satin polyester finish
- Carved Mahogany body with Maple Burl top (This particular bass is finished in a beautiful satin amber.)
- MTD quick release bridge, 3/4" (19mm) spacing
- Double-action truss rod

I'd say the bass is about 90% mint. In the interest of full disclosure, there is a shade of minor wear at the top of the headstock, a small scratch on the headstock near the nut on the B-string side, and a small mark near where the player's right arm goes are the only things I can find wrong with the bass. A note about the preamp: the tone controls work beautifully; however, the active/passive switch and Z-Mode switch seem to be wired incorrectly, as I can't get them to respond. It likely wouldn't take a luthier very long to correct, or you may be able to do it yourself, as Audere has a great amount of info on self-installation on their website (http://www.audereaudio.com/FAQ_3ZB.htm). Wiring info will be included with the bass.

Hardshell case included. Looking to sell only; no trades. PM with any questions!

Yeah, she's a beauty. Hate to give her up, but a new Kay needs to be in my near future!

Also, about the a/p switch and the z mode , did they ever work because they come for the factory already wired up when you buy them. I'm just curious to know why they don't work.

Bass sounds very clean and fat--one of the best I've heard. No sound samples, unfortunately.

The switch never worked while it was in my possession (I did not put the replacement electronics in--it was done by a previous owner); might take it into the shop to see if I can get a quick answer on what's going on...

I don't tend to keep my action extraordinarily low-low, but pretty low. It's at a very comfortable height, for me at least.

Additional photos

Have enough photos that it seems easier to post a link than keep uploading:

This includes pics of bass, blemishes, and case.

Surprised this is still here. I think these instruments are a great value even at the retail price for a new one. Seven bills with the case is a great deal. If I was looking for another fretted fiver I'd snap this up in a heartbeat.

Are you still selling this bass? Or did you sell it already? Decide not to? Tx.
