MODULUS 4 STRING BASS - 1980s Quantum 4 - Black w/ Carbon Fiber Neck - P/J 9V EMGs Q4 SOLD! Vintage 1980s 4 String Modulus Bass Guitar ![]() From the body style, I believe it's an early Quantum 4. And it's all original as far as I can tell, except for maybe the nut and one screw. -Original stealth black finish and black hardware - tuners, bridge, neckplate and neck screws, knobs, input jack, string tree, strap lock buttons (although I don't have the pieces for the strap) and all the hardware screws are black except for the pickup screws. One of the strap lock screws is not original (it's a flat head). -Serial #: 890XXX (circa 1987) -Carbon fiber neck, no truss rod. -34" scale, 24 frets -Original frets are in great shape. -9V EMG P/J pickups -Stacked knob Hi/Lo 2-Band EQ (with indents for midway) -Blending knob for P/U selector (with indent for widway) -Master volume knob -Extremely lightweight at < 7.5 lbs. on the bathroom scale. Overall it's in great shape with a few dings and scratches here and there, except there is about a 3/4" mark on the front of the body above the 22nd fret that I have no idea how it got there (see pics). It's like someone took a knife and cut a circle with a dot in the middle into the finish. It looks like a there's a little bit of leftover glue around it that someone tried to scratch off, so maybe something was stuck to the body there at one point.? I dunno. This bass feels fantastic. The neck is in beautiful shape, it's perfectly straight and it's set up with very low action and no dead spots. It's very fast, responsive and comfortable - just like you'd expect from a Mod. It can handle any technique you want to throw at it. And it has crazy sustain. The nut is 1 5/8" like a P bass, but the neck has a thin profile, more like a Jazz. The nut is also brass. I can see a little glue smeared around it, so I'm thinking someone might have replaced it at one point. The dots on the fretboard and the top of the neck are mother of pearl. The bass sounds incredible. Everything works great, and the pots and input are nice and quiet (not scratchy). Lots of different tones on this thing with the active P/J pickups, blender control, and the EQ. Comes with a vintage hard shell case with black interior (which I believe is the original). It's in pretty good condition. The latches take a little coercion sometimes, but it is functional. These don't come up very often, especially the early ones. $850 Shipped (CONUS) Paypal or Money Order Accepted. Shipping will be insured for the purchase price and will include a tracking #. So.. you be the judge if its a Quantum or a custom, but at $850 shipped for an original vintage '80s Modulus, I don't think it matters too much! And if you or anyone else has knowledge of these, feel free to ad any info, thanks! |
Great price. Lowest I have ever seen a Modulus. It doesn't look as much like a Quantum as much as the newer Qs but it very well could be. If I had to guess it was a custom. I had a late 80s pre-TBX that was a PJ i think and it sounded incredible. JP could probably confirm that but pretty sure it was a pj. If it wasn't black I would have already bought it! Glwts! |
