Modulus Semi-Hollow Fretless Quantum 5: 19mm AND 34" Scale

Sign in to disble this ad
One-of-a-kind bass that I custom ordered from Tony @ Planet Bass in MN. This was the first time that Modulus did 19mm spacing AND 34" scale, having done 34" scale with 17mm (normal spacing) and 19mm spacing with 35" scale respectively.

It REALLY works. The IMO/IME legendary B string that Modulus is known for is still here in force. Excellent pitch clarity on every note like any other modulus, with a greater responsiveness and nuance lent by the hollow body, which is satin-finished figured Walnut over an alder/chambered body.

Ergonomically the bass is comfortable, but doesn't have the same contour where your right forearm sits as the other Quantums. Much straighter. Also, and I'll have measure this with a caliper, the nut width is wider than most any bass I've played, and that could be a good or bad thing to some players.

Unlined board, Aguilar 3 Band pre, hardshell case and all that.

Here's the specs as ordered exactly from PlanetBass:

Modulus Quantum 5 (Q5, 19mm)
#TBD
Walnut Top
Alder Body
Semi-Hollow Body w/ F-Hole
Satin Finish Body
34" Scale, 2 Octave Neck
Fretless Phenolic Fingerboard (Unlined)
Side Dot Inlays
19mm String Spacing
Satin Finish Neck
Bartolini Soapbar Pickups
Aguilar OBP-3 Electronics (active treble, mid, bass)
Black Hardware
Gig Bag
Modulus Warranty
Quantum Owners Manual
Retail: $6,049.00
Typically: $4,225.00 STREET PRICE NEW!!!!

I took delivery of this bass in May and have only used it maybe 6 times. In IMMACULATE, as-new condition.

Want to get $3200 shipped

For this. MAY consider trades plus cash for the following:

Classic Stingray 5
Metro 5'er

And MAY consider any NYC Sadowsky or Alleva Coppolo (plus cash on my end of course)

Thanks for looking!!!!

Wow. I would love to try that thing, but I don't have that kind of scratch and can't justify a road trip to Oklahoma. I'm sure it sounds and plays killer. It would be interesting to see how the wide nut feels -- not a lot of taper. The top and f-hole look classy and the unlined expanse of black is somehow relaxing.

Need the cashola, and in the greater scheme of things, my Sadowsky NYC PJ5 is 'THE ONE' and will never leave. And I wish I was playing as much fretless as I thought I would be when I ordered this bass. I'm just not......

This bass has a modified Aguilar 3band pre, without the option of selecting the midrange frequency, and to my ears it's set at the 400hz option. I can get a huge variety of fretless tones out of this bass with EQ/Pickup selection. Clips to come.

Yeah, feel free to come to my house to kick me in the head if I sell it. I've had that baby for 9 years this November!
