Hey Everybody: Unfortunately, I have to sell one of my most prized possessions, my Modulus SPI Custom Q5. This bass has Bartolini PUs and a Lacewood top with a beautiful skunk stripe down the middle. The bass will ship in a heavy duty Warwick gigbag.
I called Anderson Page at Modulus to get the complete lowdown on the bass, including why it was referred to as "Custom".
- This bass is a 1994 Modulus build (Serial #941355) which predates the records of the current regime. The company was sold in 1994 and all of the old records went with the previous owner.
- The bass is called "Modulus SPI Custom 5" because any bass that was "made to order" from Modulus was referred to as such. Many basses were shipped with invoices referring to them as "Custom" if the buyer determined the specs. Today, most five string quantum series basses purchased directly from Modulus would simply be referred to as "Quantum 5", even if heavily customized.
- The bass contains the center laminate, which has become very sought after in recent years.
- The pickups are installed upside down but this does not effect sound or sound quality.
- The bass contains a 3-way switch (coil tap style), which changes the flow of the electrons through the pickups. The pickups run in either 1) Full Humbucker mode, 2) Wired in Series mode, or 3) Wired in Parallel mode
I never though that I would lose money on it, but the market for used instruments is way down, so...
