MTD 525-24 #1734 Poplar/Maple Burl/Wenge for sale

Sign in to disble this ad
As part of my "I Hate The Music Business Sale" this Michael Tobias Designs Bass Guitar, serial #1734, 5 string, 24 fret Bass Guitar is for sale for $3300. I paid $4500 for it new in Feb 2009.

Some people think this is one of the best Basses you can buy and I would not argue that. The sound is deep, bright and detailed well suited for both finger style and slap style.

Here is brief Bass solo using this Bass, finger style with no processing:

how does this wood combo sound compared to the ash/walnut top and maple fingerboard?

I had this combo. The wenge neck compresses the mids a bit but not to the ridiculous. IMO it's not so much the woods but your EQ and playing style, choice of strings, that will rule. Mine was excellent for recording, funk, smooth jazz, but not really there for hard rock. Live playing it's articulate and likes great gear. These basses are well constructed and weight is not at all a concern. Looks like Al took good care of it.

Wonder why he hates music....
