Up for sale is a MINT MTD 535-24. This bass is DEAD MINT..in my opinion better than showroom condition..about as good as when Mike put it in its case before it left the shop. Not one ding..scratch..scuff or spec of dust
Plays like a dream, super low action and very balanced. The tone is very warm and clear with tons of punch. The dynamic range is very, very controllable. Finger style and slap tone for days!
The Macassar Ebony top is really stunning to see, as is the Macassar Ebony fingerboard! This bass has a lot of upgrades including a 5 peice Maple neck with Bubinga Stripes!! Pretty rare to see..a la The old Tobias necks, but it is a bolt on. The neck is sleek and very, very comfortable. Has the MTD "World" Logo also
Here is Mike Tobias description:
"The body is African mahogany with a Macassar ebony top. The neck is maple with bubinga stringers a macassar ebony fingerboard. This bass is delivered with the revolutionary Buzz Feiten Tuning system. This system will show a great improvement in tuning when playing chords and when working with a keyboard and horns. I recommend the Korg DT7, tuner which has the “Feiten Mode” built in. Tuning is normal in every way except the intonation. The tuner has the pitch offsets burned into the chip and all you need to do is follow the simple instructions in the tuner manual to achieve the proper intonation settings.
This bass is 35" scale with 24 frets. The neck and body are hand finished with an epoxy base coat and catalyzed urethane topcoat. This should make a great feeling and durable finish. Upkeep on the finish is simple. This can be cleaned and polished with any high quality guitar polish. The fingerboard should also be oiled regularly with a good quality wood oil or mineral oil. Be sure to wipe off the excess.
The new truss rod is a true double acting rod and will adjust in both directions. It is adjustable with the 4 mm Allen wrench supplied with this package."
Whoever ends up with this is getting a GEM both in looks, Playablity and TONE!!! With MINT Hardshell MTD Case

Thanks! |

Hey Greg! Its a 35 but it almost kinda feels like its a 34. Not sure if the 24 fret neck and the way it insets into the body makes a difference but it does not fell as long as a 35 sometimes does. Your 534 neck throughs look amazing! and yup, this 535 is stunning. Pics almost don't do it justice. Thanks for the comments

Cheers,

Question on the tone... more of a warm P bass or a hi-fi jazz? What are the tone goals of the wood combinations?

When I talked to Mike, the goal with these woods was to make a Bass that still had the clear high end (which it does) but to be warmer and more focused sounding to sit in a mix better yet retaining the MTD quality. The dynamic range on this one is more controllable than other MTD's Hope that helps..
