MTD KZ5 - upgraded with Nordstrand DC's and Audere 4-band

Sign in to disble this ad
This is a great bass that was made even better by some upgrades installed by Pete Skjold for a previous owner. The pickups were replaced by Nordstrand Dual Coils, and the preamp was replaced with an Audere 4-band with the standard Z-mode selector. In addition, each Dual Coil has a series/parallel/single coil selector switch, so in short, this bass has virtually infinite possible tones. The bass also has a Hipshot A-style bridge now, which gives you the option to adjust string spacing to your liking.

The bass has a mahogany body, burled maple top, and a rosewood fingerboard. It also has a pea-sized ding by the rear strap button (pic below) which obviously has absolutely no effect on anything.

I'm looking for $1050 shipped in the lower 48. Bass ships in a hardshell case. I'm just looking to clear room, so please, no trades (unless you've got one of the pedals listed on my GAS list in my profile).

EDIT: Now accepting trades for either Lakland 55-02 (probably with a little cash on your end) or a 55-94 (with cash on my end)! LH3 electronics is preferred but will consider Bartolini as well.

Pics!

Not interested in any other basses; only trades I'd consider would be for any of the pedals listed on my GAS list in my profile (obviously these would be partial trades).

Well, dang! If I hadn't just bought a Fender Victor Bailey, I'd be all over this one.

Free bump for a great guy to deal with!

Oooooo!! I recognize this bass! I was lucky enough to own it for a while a couple of years ago. It truly is badass, but I got rid of it when I consolidated to 34". In addition to the pickups and electronics upgrades, it also has a Hipshot "A" bridge (and maybe Ultralight tuners too, I can't remember). Awesome bass, crazy low action, lots of tonal options and a much better color than the MTD Pumpkinburst that's so common, IMHO...

There is no doubt in my mind that this bass absolutely kills.

Then you'd be right! Like everything that Mike Tobias produces, it plays like a dream, and the upgraded electronics make this bass sound like a true boutique bass.

Sure! But the buyer will incur additional shipping fees. I'll PM you and we can talk more.

Hey -- the Chocolate Chip* bass is back on the market! I owned this one for a time also -- very nice bass!

* The first time my wife saw this bass she said, "Wow -- it looks like a chocolate chip cookie!"

Well, *I* sold it because at the time we were buying a house and I needed to scrape together every penny for our down payment. I actually slimmed down to ONE bass during that stretch.

This is a really nice instrument -- especially for the price. It already has all the mods you want.

Sorry, no means to do this.

Has the Hipshot A-style bridge, so it's adjustable between something like 17mm-19mm.

Just checked out the weight on my bathroom scale, and I'm 194.5 without the bass and 203 with it. That comes to 8.5lbs, so to be fair, I'd say it's between 8.5-9lbs. Nice and light!

New Years price reduction!

Also, I'm now accepting trades for either a Lakland 55-02 or 55-94 (cash on either side as situation dictates). Stronger consideration given towards LH3 electronics over Bartolini.

I only sold it because I was consolidating the whole herd to 34". Bump for an awesome bass!
