MUSICMAN STERLING: FS Feeler

This is a bass that I purchased for a friend of mine about 4 years ago, used, to pay off a debt to him. I saw it and immediately realized that this bass was one of the best EBMM basses I've ever played and know he'd love it...

And he does love it, but he rarely plays at all anymore. He is feeling like his treatment of this bass is doing an injustice to the amazingness that is this bass and wants to get something that he doesn't feel bad about neglecting for all but about 20 minutes of playing a month.
Yes, this bass has only seen a few hours of play in 4 years in a non-gig, practice environment. I have made sure it was kept intonated, clean, and problem free. And now, it's time to see if it is destined for a more used lifestyle.

So on to the details:

ERNIE BALL MUSICMAN STERLING
(A 4H configuration, but before they named them such)
Built in late 1999 (according to serial database, F018...)
Ash body (Beautiful figuring and grain)
Maple fingerboard and neck (Extremely beautiful flame!)
White guard
Matching Headstock
9 Lbs

The bass has been stored in a non-original hardcase, which won't go with the bass (I want to keep it). I have a Sterling Ball gig bag that it can ship in, but I will go further, if it comes to it...
I will purchase a BRAND NEW case for this, Ernie Ball Fitted SKB case, if the full asking price is met. The bass is gorgeous and deserves a comfy place to sleep.

MY PERSONAL TAKE ON THIS BASS:
I've owned several EBMM basses over the years and this is #2 on my list of the best of them (a 91 'Ray that I had was unbeatable! This is a CLOSE 2nd).
The grain and figuring of the woods is stellar and completely out-does most of the newer basses I've seen from them.
The tone of this bass is THE Ernie Ball tone. It defines the brand SO WELL and I'd be hard pressed to find something that comes close.
I have recorded with this and it's just phenomenal. I really question his judgment to even bother with selling it, because I honestly believe that it will be irreplaceable. I'd buy it from him, but I don't play 4 much, so it'd do what it does at his house... sit there, looking pretty! And I can really, honestly say that this bass should be played and heard, as it's just outstanding by comparison.

Okay, now that you're drooling, here's the pics:

Nice, huh!?!?
Well, there are 3 spots that were on the bass when I purchased it and that's all I really see:

No effect on playability, obviously.
The bass is loved and cared for.

$1200 shipped to the US, Paypal only.
That's the bass, a BRAND NEW hardshell OEM case, and shipping.

He isn't in any kind of need or rush to sell, so I doubt he's going to budge on that price unless there's a good reason (offer, time, or otherwise).
I am just putting the feelers out for him. You can PM me with questions, offers, etc.

TRADE POSSIBILITIES:
Like I said, he wants a cheaper bass and money.
4 string, decent quality, good sound, no issues. He played a friend's Fender Prophecy and a Sterling SB14was digging those, so something similar? Let me know what you have and I'll see what he thinks.

This is an amazing bass, believe me!

RE: The price

Gotten a few PMs saying the price was a bit on the high side...

Yeah, I'm kind of shooting for the moon, but I did leave a bit of leeway...
If I don't have to buy a BRAND NEW case for it, that obviously knocks a lot off of the top. So if you are interested and don't need a new case, we can talk.

I honestly believe the bass is far superior to your average Sterling. Most I see are solid colors and pedestrian wood on the neck. This bass is of FAR better woods and warrants a higher value, in my opinion.

Played this at a recording session last night and it's got remarkable tone...

I'm not letting him sell this bass. If it goes to anyone, it will be me.

Off the market.
