Nordy VJ5, Birdseye maple fretboard, blocks and binding

Sign in to disble this ad
Regretably I am selling my newly aquired (from TBer) Nordy VJ5. The 34.5" scale combined with 19mm string spacing is too much for me Here are the specs:

- lightweight swamp ash body
- 70's position P/Us
- 19mm spacing
- 34.5" scale
- Lightweight Hipshot tuners
- Lightweight black Hipshot O-ring knobs
- 3 tone sunburst ($100 upgrade)
- 9 pounds
- maple neck with satin finish
- birdseye maple fingerboard ($100 upgrade)
- Pearloid blocks and white binding ($300 upgrade)
- upgraded Hipshot B bridge
- Nordstrand 3B-4b preamp
- Nordstrand NJ5S noiseless split coil pickups ($100 upgrade)
- side jack ($50 upgrade)
- tortoise shell pickguard ($50 upgrade)
- Brand new road runner hard shell case

The New VJ5's start at $3700 before upgrades. I am selling this mint condition bass for $2300 $2100.

Trade interests: Rob Allen Mouse 30, Mb-2, or 34" scale deep series (4 or 5 string), Birdsong Hy 5, Bordwell, Clement, Stambaugh, medium or shortscale is better.
Lakland Skyline, Sadowsky, Landing, Possible Ray 5 H, PJ's....

Trades of lesser value + cash are great I could use $$$ = 34" scale or less, 9 lbs or less, watcha got?

Thumbs up

I would consider a trade for a Rob Allen Mouse or mb-2. Preferably walnut, koa or darker wood color. Prefer lined fretless. , may be open to fretted.

Very tempting...especially as I have a Rob Allen Mouse with a Walnut top and lined fretless neck.

Just not sure about the maple board and scale. I know 34.5" big deal. Well, lots of people say 35" is no big deal, yet I seem to notice and not care for 35" scale basses.

I have a Nordy vJ5 modern and you really don't notice the scale length difference. Like you , I don't care for 35" scale basses but the 34.5 is a nice in between. It feels like a 34 but still keeps the tight low end of a 35 without the pingy high end that 35" scale basses tend to have.

You know for me, I think I have been more used to 17.5mm string spacing in 5 strings and the jump to 19mm along with the extra 1/2 inch scale length was too much. I am 5' 1" tall with very small hands though . This is why I want your Mouse! (Something about that just sounds wrong LOL)

I, too have small hands. I don't find a wider spacing that bad. I had a Sadowsky that was 19mm and it was fine. It's the length that does it for me.

You don't even have to spread your fingers to play the Mouse. It's pretty sweet. I'm almost thinking of keeping it, but I know that I don't use it enough to justify it so it's still for sale/trade.

I wish I had a little experience with Nordstrand stuff - pups, preamp - so I could feel a little more comfortable with trading.

Prefer cash sale, but Opening up to trades+ cash. I would like to get in the vicinity of $800 cash if possible, adjust according to what you are offering. Must be 34" scale or smaller, 9lbs or less, 4 or 5 strings.

Really looking for Rob Allen basses!
Will consider all others, watcha got?

If this were 3-4 months ago I would have scooped this right up.
I have a new classic with a maple board.
Yours looks georgeous! Nice figured board!

Thanks chinjazz. If it doesn't sell here soon I may send it to Nordstrand to sell for me.

Anyone have a fretless Veillette? Looking for the ones that are better with an upright kind of tone. Paris, Minotaur etc.
