SOLD: Nordy VJ5 Vintage Trans White Ash/Maple

Sign in to disble this ad
SOLD...

Vintage trans white ash body w/ red tort guard, maple neck w/ pearl blocks and binding, vintage tint, 34 1/2" Scale, 8 1/2 lbs.

Nordstrand 2 band preamp, Nordstrand NJ5 70's wind single coil pickups, Hipshot hardware

Bass is in excellent condition, bought used a little while back from one of the guys at Steamco Music in Canada, no significant cosmetic or functional issues.

Reason for selling is my usual reason: the bass is not being played, so it has to go. I'm playing my Sadowsky Metro pretty much exclusively at church these days. I actually like the way the neck feels and the action on this bass a little more than the Metro, but the Sadowsky just works a little better for the room we play in. And I'm keeping the MTD, plus I picked up a Combustion. So someone else needs to enjoy this one since I already have the jazz thing covered with the Metro.

$2000 including shipping to lower 48, Paypal or USPS money order only, will ship in gig bag. Prefer outright sale, might consider trades +/- cash for Bose L1 PA equipment or newer MacBook Pro only. Please note this is not an "I need the money sale" and I've put what I consider a reasonable asking price on it, so I would appreciate similarly reasonable offers.

More pics: (these are the previous owner's pics but it looks the same - I'll take some more when I get the digicam up and running if a serious buyer so desires).

OK, this bass had some interest already, so I looked it over again under direct overhead lighting to be sure I was providing full disclosure, and I did find two small finish cracks at the neck joint, the kind that are fairly typical in my experience and do not affect the wood. Pics linked below.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y14...rch2010008.jpg

There's some minimal scratching on neckplate and backplate (no belt buckle rash/finish scratches on wood, though), and a tiny (around 2mm) scratch on the lower bout edge that barely indents the finish - have to look at it at an angle in good lighting to see.

To keep it this stuff in perspective, I never even realized any of this was there until I did the REALLY close inspection, and the latter items will not show at all in pics (I tried). But I know that is important to many prospective buyers, so there you have it.

Couple more quick and dirty pics below as well:

Greg, does it have a passive tone control along with the preamp?

Is there a bypass to the preamp?

What kind of gigbag?

Yes, there is a preamp bypass - vol knob up = passive operation. (Knobs are vol/blend/treble/bass). There is no separate passive tone control knob so I'm assuming that function is not present, unless maybe the treble functions as such in passive mode or something. I actually never played it in passive mode that I remember and never really thought about that till you asked - the Nordy pre sounds SO good I used it pretty much exclusively.

I think the gigbag is a Protec - will have to get down into the storage room and look to be sure though.

Greg's a great guy. I miss my old Nordy that I got from him.

By chance, is that Metro you're using the one you got from me?

I think so - oly white RV5? It is a keeper, bro. I must admit I find it hard to remember since I tend to be a gear slut.
