*Please read everything - important - sorry about the length*
Here's a unique opportunity to own a one-of-a-kind non-production model SKC/Bogart 5-string fretted bass. I just bought fellow TB'er Moondoggy's Bogart, so keeping with the "one in, one out" theory, what better one to move "out" then my unique Bogart.
Here's the story as best as I remember: I bought this bass back in January of 2002 from John DiMaggio over at BassAlone.com in San Diego. This was an experimental, non-production model that features an all-wood body and neck. It has no serial number, and was never reproduced. Whomever the distributor was sold it to John, he put it up on his site, and I bought it, sight unseen.
Here's the specs as measured:
* All-wood body (of unknown material) in the classic Bogart shape
* Rock maple neck and purpleheart fingerboard
* Bartolini soapbar pickup
* NOLL Elektronische TCM-3 3-band preamp
* Fully adjustable aluminum bridge - string spacing currently set at appx. 5/8"
* 1-3/4" at nut, 2-7/8" at bridge
* Appx 8.6lbs weight
This bass is 100% Bogart - I have never seen another one like it, nor does it appear anywhere in any literature or web-site I have ever seen.
As far as sound - well, it sounds incredible. I have never heard a preamp quite like it - very growly, and very 'scooped mids' sounding. The controls are: volume, mids, and stacked bass/treble. This thing sounds so different, that for a while I thought the small "mid" control knob was actually some kind of effect knob.
That's where the great news ends.
This bass has all of the knick-knacks you would expect with a non-production model: finish imperfections (including a few paint chips that have accumulated over 7yrs.), a small section of delamination on the headstock, a small number "1" written in pencil below the B tuning peg, and some really weird ferrules under the neck screws.
The big issue with this bass is the fret job. The 23rd and 24th frets on the "B" side seem to be slightly raised, and it also appears as if they were filed down. This creates a couple of non-playable positions way up on the neck. The A string 23rd position, E string 22d & 23d, and B string 21/22/23d positions only produce a noisy buzz or the 23rd position note. ALL of the other positions are FINE. The D and G strings fret 1-24 with no issues. I don't know what the cause is, perhaps the fret wire slot was not deep enough. Either way, repair is not out of the question.
So, that being said - I am looking for someone who is interested in purchasing a unique bass to which 98% is playable and sounds fantastic. I personally have no use for the B/E strings that far up the neck - so I could care less. If you don't either, then this bass is for you.
I am offering this bass up for $SOLD!!!, or BEST REASONABLE OFFER, plus shipping from 02351 - yes, that's right - hit me with an offer and you might be surprised what I will take. NOT interested in trades of any kind - just bought one and need to unload for $$. Also includes a decent gig bag. I know this bass is slightly flawed, but its like owning a sweet high-end car with a few minor defects - it beats the hell out of a perfect Honda (know what I mean?).
Hit me up!
