Peavey T40: black/maple

Sign in to disble this ad
EDIT: see new info in post #10 below.

I picked this up with the idea of cleaning it up and using it, but too much else to do. This is an all-original T40 that I bought from the original owner. He hadn't played it much since the '80s, which shows. Everything works, but it needs cleaned up: there's a little oxidation on almost all the metal parts, and the frets are dirty. The bass shows some wear, but not much for its age other than the oxidation.

I haven't done a thing to this bass since I got it, so it's as is, but would be a great project for someone who wants to put in a little elbow grease and get it set up to play. Best part is it comes with the original case, which is awesome (and worth quite a bit on its own). The case is in better shape than the bass too.

Asking $300 shipped to the continental US.

Oh, and a bonus: I'll throw in the original owner's period-correct coiled guitar cable with it! (Hell, if you're local, I'll throw in an old beater amp too....but it's not worth shipping.)

Very tempting! Unfortunately I need another bass like a hole in the head, and I just ordered a new cab.

Best of luck with the sale.

Would also sell locally for $285 OBO, and I'm willing to drive a good way to make that happen (Chicago, Mpls, KC, etc, people - would meet halfway or whatever to work something out).

UPDATED INFO:

I spent a little time with this today. I'm happy to say that the truss rod is fully functional, and I have no doubt that the bass could be set up to your taste. I also cleaned up some of the body and metal parts a little. The frets are still a little gunky, but in good shape.

Taking offers........

Deal of the day! If you buy this vintage Peavey, I will throw in this vintage cable, purchased by the original owner with the bass in the early '80s! (Santa placemat not included.)

Beauty...if it were Tobacco burst, I'd have been all over it (although this one gave me pause, I don't need another black/maple bass!).

Bump for Peavey goodness!

Still available for now.....and I should mention that I'd negotiate a good package deal if someone wanted the T40 and this Fender Bullet body also:

'81 Fender (USA) Bullet loaded body

Question was asked about the serial number, so I'll post it publicly too: it starts with 005, which I think dates the bass to 1980.

If I had the money, I'd be all over this. My first real bass was a t-40, but I never learned to appreciate it before I sold it. Bump for a wonderful, extremely cost effective bass.
