Peavey TL-5/TL-Five/TL5 1st gen

Sign in to disble this ad
First generation TL-Five with super-ferrite pickups and the 5-knob configuration in killer trans red. This bass plays, sounds, and looks great. One minor ding in the headstock, otherwise the finish is perfect. Some very nice figuring on the back of the neck. Electronics are fine, truss rod works both ways, and frets have plenty of good times left.

Two minor issues: though the battery cover is cracked, it never worried me, it stays closed securely. The control cavity cover has a hole in it to adjust preamp gain without taking the cover off, this does not line up quite right with the set screw. A phone call to Peavey (to the guy that was in charge of the production of this line, in fact) confirms that this minor misalignment was very common for this model. The preamp circuit board is mounted VERY solidly and does not have any issues.

One tone knob has been replaced and is not original.

Ships in a non-original, sorta warpy HSC that will be fine for shipping and storage.

$600Now asking $550 OBO shipped UPS Ground CONUS. No trades, thanks.

Specs/Manual here.
More pics are here.

I remember drooling over the TL-5 when I was younger. Got my Peavey catalog and thought one day I'd own one.

Free bump for a sweet instrument.

Bump. I am surprised this is still available - $550 for an American made neck-thru fiver with killer active/passive electronics. High quality gear at an affordable price.

A year ago, you'd have been right.

If I could, I'd snatch up every TL-5 that's out there. Extraordinary instruments!

Come on guys, buy this up!! I played my TL-5 this morning at church. I was asked TWICE what preamp I was using (I usually use a preamp) cuz they loved the tone. I gladly said "None!" I was direct!!

For the record, bass weighs 10.0 lbs on the bathroom scale and I believe it's 17.5 mm. However, I just received payment and this beauty is SOLD.
