Hi folks,
I've just posted an ad on Craigslist in Montreal and figured I might as well post here. As I mentioned in the thread title, I'm looking at selling locally here in Montreal. Most people here won't be familiar with Pierre Laporte's work as he is a very small operation. He does, however, make fantastic basses and this one is no exception. Here are the specs as I've posted them on Craigslist:
Six string bass guitar, custom made by Montreal luthier Pierre Laporte. 34" scale. Neck through, ash body wings, maple neck, macassar ebony fingerboard with matching ebony headstock veneer/through body veneer. EMG active soapbars, passive electronics, Kahler bridge, Schaller strap locks. Control knobs: tone/bridge pickup/neck pickup.
Price drop: $1850 CND.
This bass is approximately ten years old. I bought it used through Pierre Laporte's shop two years ago. It is in excellent condition. There are minor scratches on the body which have resulted from normal use, but no significant dings (certainly nothing that would show up in a photo). The neck on this bass is fantastic - it's incredibly stable (it hasn't moved since I bought it). Furthermore, the fingerboard is extremely even-sounding. This is one of the few basses I've owned which doesn't have any perceivable "dead spots". The B string is clear and punchy and it does not feel sloppy (or overly tight) in the least (if you think a low B can't sound and feel as good on a 34" as on a 35" then you need to try this one out). String-to-string balance on this bass is exceptional. For the sake of full disclosure: the tone knob is cracked (and has been since I bought the bass). I've never bothered gluing it up (I was originally planning on switching up the knobs for some black ones), but you might want to. There are some small (what look to be mounting screw) holes on the back of the headstock that are mostly obscured by the tuning pegs. My guess is that the previous owner changed the machine/peg type. These holes are certainly no cause for concern - they could be filled but I don't really see the point. Pierre Laporte has been doing the maintenance on this bass since I bought it and he can certainly answer any questions about the instrument's history. He's a fantastic guy!
Edit: I spoke with Pierre today and he confirmed that the holes on the back of the headstock are from the previous set of tuners.
The reason I'm selling this wonderful instrument is simple: I don't have the need for that high C string. The bass is just sitting here looking pretty and it deserves to be played. Please email me with any questions regarding the bass - it's a good one!
Anyone interested is free to come and try the bass out - just PM me.
