Player's MTD 535/21 (wenge/maple and ash)

You've heard it before--I'm sure I'll regret this--but I'm posting my MTD 535/21 for sale. I got this bass last spring, and it's the best sounding of the three 535's I've owned, but a furnace replacement requires me to consider moving something....

This 535 has a maple neck and wenge fretboard (a combination that's no longer available) plus a solid ash body and wenge trim. The body has been stripped and refinished with a hard gloss finish by Pat Wilkins, and is in great shape with very striking grain. The neck has a little normal wear and looks like it has the original finish, but the serial number (#485, according to the previous owner) is no longer visible on the back of the headstock so it may have been touched up.

The bass has been gigged and so has some of the finish worn away on the Hipshot tuners and some of the black hardware, plus some string marks on the pickups. No major damage, just normal wear and tear on a bass that sounds great and has been played for many years.

I do not have a hard case for it, just a RoadRunner gigbag. Asking $2100 shipped in the US--you won't find another 535 that sounds any better than this one, much less for this price!

Mike

#485, mmm... if that number is correct, the bass was built as early as 1998. looks like a great bargain. someone will be really happy to take it home!

A little bit of investigation will lead you here, MTD 535 Serial 485 FS Only $2350
Apparently, the serial # (485) is still inside of the control cavity.

OP, can you please confirm this?

My old bass. It is a killer sounding MTD. I personally took it to Mr. Tobias in Kingston to get the bridge replaced and a full set up. There is no serial on the headstock but Mr. Tobias authenticated the instrument. Do not worry about the missing serial - it is a genuine MTD 535.

Killer deal and GLWS.....

Thanks! It looked like Mike had put a new bridge on it, but I wasn't sure. You're right, it's a killer sounding bass!

Thanks for all the interest everyone. It's currently on hold.
