I'm selling my (Rare) Japanese Tune Zi-3 5-string from 1991. I bought it from Rudy's Music in NYC in 1991 and it is truly an awesome bass. I tend not to use it much now, however, because over the years I've become more of a MusicMan guy. Not too many of these out there for sale--not sure of a good value, so I'll start asking $1300 + shipping to the lower 48. I'm open to any reasonable offer, including trades for Fender Jazz-derived basses. Includes hardshell case.
This is a very hi-fi sounding bass, very smooth, with an incredibly deep low B. It has a very powerful stock onboard 18v preamp with 3-band eq + a midrange notch filter accessible from with the back preamp cover off. It also has individual gain controls for each pickup on the circuit board. It slaps great and has no noticeable fret wear. It does have one dent in the outside edge of the body that I put in it back in the 90's when I was still gigging it (see pics), and minor nicks on the headstock that come with almost 20 years of playing.
It's a neck-through design, with a 4-piece maple laminated neck with an ebony fretboard. The body is a sandwich of three layers of wood, walnut-mahogany-walnut. It's small and very light, also. The neck is perfect and plays like a dream.
