rare bird: 78 Alembic Series I w/ graphite neck

Sign in to disble this ad
Selling my main playing bass of the past 30 years. With two kids to get through college it is too much of a luxury to have this bass when I only play occasionally.

Super rare bird and in excellent condition: $10,000 firm.

I believe only 50 or so of these were made by alembic. These were some of the first basses featuring graphite necks made by the company that would eventually become modulus.

This bass was orginally presented to Dennis Erokan (editor of BAM magazine) by Rick Turner. Per Dennis he felt the bass was too live and present for his ears. (Thats what I love about it!). I bought it used in 1980 and have used on many, many gigs over the years. I don't play much anymore and this beauty deserves to be played to as many ears as possible.

Pickups replaced by Alembic in the late 1980s (originals went microphonic).

1/4" jack is mono (done by Alembic)

Refin is by Michael Dolan in Santa Rosa.

Original power supply works fine. I have at least one functioning cord although it was not made by Alembic. I have another working cord and one broken one that I am trying to locate.

Original Anvil road case.

I am about 20 minutes away from the Alembic factory. Perhaps you out of the area folks could arrange for an inspection to put your mind at ease.

That is the graphite neck (just a clear finish on it). The picture of the back of the bass shows the same finish on the neck. The peghead photo was taken outside so the highlights are more pronounced.

I'd love that ! I'm in Petaluma and I'm waiting for my phone call from Mica at Alembic, any day now. I'm having my Cirrus modded into a CIRRALEMBIC - It's gonna be sweet !

I'd love to get together ! - Mike

PS - That bass you have - Do your kids really NEED to go to college ? I'd say it's a toss up if that means you get to keep the bass.

I can't wait to hear the Cirrlembic and bump for an Alembic I wouldn't mind owning.

Beautiful bass! I have a 1979 Series II with the graphite neck. These basses are amazing. Someone is going to be very happy. Good luck with your sale!

Cheers,
Jim

And you'll probably never see another. They made 50 and not all of them survived. Apparently not all of the early constuction techniques worked over the long haul. This bass obviously did.
I had an '82 with a graphite neck that was the best bass Ive ever touched. It lives in splendor in Japan now. If you have the coin, do not hesitate on this bass. If it's anything like mine it will be worth every dime.

Daddy has a nice bass, he earned it, they can earn $ for school and take the loans.

You already paid for them to get this far without dying or killing them.

Jobs and sports keeps them too tired to get into trouble. Community college is cheap and they can transfer to the last 2 years of a 4 year school. Still says the name of the 4 year school on the degree.
Jobs and work their way through school, it'll make them tougher adults when they get out.

Yeah! My kids did that. 2 years at SchoolCraft Community College, and off to U of M for the last 2 (or 3!) years. Diploma is in fact from U0f M...

I $old the Comic Book Collection we had acquired over the years to cover the Balance.
