Bruce Johnson is well-known for his handmade version of the Ampeg scroll bass, and this is his take on the Ampeg Short Scale Bass from the 60s. This is #5 of only 5 of these basses made, built by Bruce Johnson himself. You will probably never see another one of these anywhere! This one was finished on September 7, 2001, and the date is engraved on the jack plate. I'm asking $1300 plus actual shipping cost (in the US only, please), which is what I paid for it. It comes with a somewhat beat-up but useable coffin-shaped hard case and will be packed very well.
Johnson's custom made brass and chrome hardware is amazing, the thin neck with rolled edges is super comfortable, and the ash body is pretty light and well-balanced. The action is low with no buzz and the brass nut and zero fret guarantee amazing tone. The scale is 30.5", but it uses normal strings and because of the way he makes it, the overall length of the bass is only a few inches shorter than a standard P-Bass. It has a customized Duncan P-Bass pickup. I really, really hate to get rid of this bass, but I need the money at the moment. I haven't used it at all, but it does have some normal play wear from the original owner. The hardware is in pretty much mint condition.
Take a minute and go to Bruce's website to read all the details of this bass (there's too much for me to list here), and feel free to ask any questions. His craftsmanship is incredible.
