Exclamation RARE MTD 435/21 "NOS", priced to move...

SOLD!

I managed to find a person through a close friend that had this special bass available. I'm only the third owner, and it's barely been played. I can't find a wear mark, nick, scratch, dent, scuff, or anything on it. As a result, it's essentially a "NOS" 435/21. It was built in 1999 and could almost be sold as new it's in such amazing condition. The neck finish is yellowed from age to a beautiful patina, and feels slender and wonderful. Very fast. Nice lightweight config, too. I can weigh it if needed, but it's gotta' be well under 9 pounds. Tulip body, maple/maple neck, wenge trimmings, and 21 frets. For those not familiar with Mike's model numbering, this is a 35" scale bass. The net result of this is a bass that takes to detuning fantastically, and even without detuning, it's a 4 string bass with a particularly powerful sound. It's also 19mm at the bridge.

It's a joy to play, the action can be set right down on the deck if you want, and sounds wonderful! It's got the mid punch from the tulip, and the growl and aggression from the maple/maple neck that's undeniable. The slap tone is just as strong as the fingerstyle tone, and the notes ring true and crystal clear in classic MTD style.

Comes with its original brown MTD rectangular case, which is also in fantastic condition.

I'm only moving this bass because I really need to recoup some funds, so I'm not really looking for trades. I might be able to do partial trades as long as the majority is still cash, though... keeping an open mind.

Otherwise, I'm looking to get $2500, which I think is a pretty great price for this particular piece in its condition.

Beautiful bass and a great seller. If I played a four, I'd be all over this.

Does this mean the wenge/wenge won out over the maple?!

Actually, believe it or not, they're really more similar than they are different, so it's not like night/day. This one is not as ornate as the other, but is in slightly better condition, and there's something about the ash body (my fave body wood) that seems to compensate for a lot of the "issues" I have with wenge, so of the two, that one seems to make the most sense to hang on to. Plus, the ash wenge/wenge one might actually find its way "home" someday, so that's another reason to flip this one at least first. That said, there is a slight difference between the two and I personally think the one in this thread is slightly more aggressive sounding, which I know for a fact will impress the hell out of whomever ends up with it.

If I didn't need the money, I'd seriously consider keeping both, even though I rarely play 4 bangers. Yeah, they're that cool.

In short, they're both phenomenal instruments. There's literally nothing out there at all, anywhere, that compares to one of Mike's 435's. Period. Except for another 435 of course.

Nuts... if this were fretless I'd be all over it.
Someone's going to get a really special instrument.
