Re-list: FS/FT 1981 Fender Precision - $1050shipped

Sign in to disble this ad
I have for sale a 1981(not 1978, haha!) Fender Precision. It is a fantastic bass, and wouldn't mind keeping if the sale doesn't happen. I just would like a more versatile bass for school.

Here is what I know is original:
-body
-neck
-frets
-bridge
-tuners
-pickup
-neck plate
-string tree
-knobs
-pickup ground plate

What I know is not original:
-finish
-nut(real bone replacement I had custom made, the original nut was cut too low on the A and it rattled bad.)
-pots(CTS solid shaft brass 250k)
-cap(orange drop .42)
-jack(switchcraft)
-wiring
-copper tape I had added inside the cavity for grounding

What I don't know is original or not:
-pickguard(could be, I don't know)
-pickguard screws(probably not, who cares? haha)
-strap buttons

The condition is what I like to call MOJO. It's got wear in all the right places(belly spot on the back, arm rest on the contour, back of the neck and the sides of the fingerboard, as well as the headstock.) It's got a ton of character and it plays/sounds amazing.

I do not know the weight or the neck width. I don't have a scale or a tape measure-er, I am in college and every dollar counts these days so I would rather not buy something I won't need after the sale. If they are deal-breakers, I am open to suggests on how to obtain these numbers for free. Other than that, I will say this...The neck width feels like a standard P bass. Not fat like an 50's RI, not skinny like a J. The weight is substantial, but not overbearing. It is a solid ash body after all. Rock solid.

If there are any questions, feel free to ask.

Price is now $1050shipped.

Trades are as follows:
1. Fender American Deluxe Jazz 5 string
2. Lakland 55-02 with Lakland electronics
3. Any other Lakland Skyline 5 string
4. Open to other 5 string active basses, but I pretty much know I what I want.

Thanks!

~B

PICS(some are old and better because I took them with my parents digital camera when I was back at home in CA. some are new and bad because the only camera I have in the one on my phone. Sorry in advance..)

I am not sure if they used black pickguards in the late 70's or early 80's but I "think" that they did (with Olympic White at least) and the holes for the thumbrest are in the right place so my guess is that the pickguard is original. Those era pickups are also amazing. They used them in the earliest Fullerton era Precision Reissues.

As far as neck width it should be B width which is 1 5/8" and the same width they have on current standards.

Nice pictures this bass looks great. Now I am going to try and find some money.

That original post almost made me cry. Doesn't help that I'm watching the Bachelor right now. Wow I wanted to bite on this - great price, but I can't get over the white though.

Good luck and don't be so sentimental this time around!

Dude, white is the best color! If you tire of it, just change the pickguard and you've got a new bass!

Plus, the color of this bass is Desert Sand. More tan in it that regular white. Looks killer with a tort guard!
