Recently acquired from Brett on trade. Love this bass, but unfortunately can't afford to keep it. This was posted last week, however, I took that listing down to update the ad with more photos which are hopefully of better quality.
This is a Made in Japan Ibanez RD727 P/J bass from somewhere in the Eighties. It is by no stretch immaculate, and it a true players bass. Cosmetically, she is nowhere near perfect with a multitude of battle scars (detailed below), but structurally sound. This wasn't too much of an issue for me, as I had originally intended to send it off to Pat Wilikins for a refin, but circumstances change.
Here's the rundown:
Headstock:- Tiny dent at the tip.
- Clear coat chip beneath truss rod cover.
- RD727 and MIJ stickers with serial number on back.
Neck:- Rosewood fingeboard.
- Sharktooth inlays.
- Nicely figured grain.
- Bound in aged white.
- No issues.
Frets:- 90% by my conservative estimate.
Hardware:- Gotoh tuners with "Made In Japan" labels.
- High mass bridge with flaking of black finish.
- NOTE: The saddle adjustment screw is bent, but still turns enough to achieve proper intonation at standard tuning.
- Silver Schaller-style straplocks.
Electronics:- Unknown passive P/J pups.
- No jack issues.
- No pot issues.
Body:- Finished in a beautiful blood red metallic.
- Dings that were through-to-wood have been retouched with a metallic burgundy which is not an identical match, but close (please note the indoor pictures with the flash accentuate the color difference, however, it's not really that drastic of a difference).
- Clear coat scratch, upper horn.
- Numerous dents and dings to face of body.
- Chip, lower horn, retouched.
- Multiple chips on lower bout, rear, retouched.
- Multiple chips on rear edge near control cover, retouched.
- Two clear coat dings on back.
- One chip on lower horn, rear, retouched.
Please look at all the pictures as I've tried to highlight the majority of the mojo.
