Peavey TL-5– 5 String Bass $575 – Shipped Continental USA About My Basses In any given week I will be playing folk, contemporary jazz, church sessions and rock gigs. I use a digital biamp amplifier or Direct. To get tonal differences to fit the genre, basses are rotated for the gig or session. I do not own basses that require a "backup". All instruments must remain in tune. In the next few months, the music type will change. I have recently 5-string acoustic fretless and custom-shop 4, 5, and 6 neck through electrics. The following basses are now on the for sale list. I want you to be happy with your new gear. If it helps you, we can talk on the phone for a few minutes. ================================================== ========================== General Information I am the not the original owner of this bass. The bass appears to have very limited playing. The prior owner played 1x per month at a church and owned 2 Transparent Red TLs. Out of all my basses, this is the biggest secret – A late TL-5 is VERY comparable to a Cirrus for about half the Budget. To buy this bass I had to buy a matched pair (both VFL and both Trans Red). for the Church gigs, they prefer a TL-5, TL-6 or Cirrus. This plays in the same class as most production custom shop basses. If you have considered owning a 5 String but did not like the slow chunky neck. Consider a TL – This is a very classy looking bass and is appropriate for most music styles. Model TL-5, TL-Five Country USA Color RED Hardware Gold Plated Neck Neck Through and Ebony Electronics Active VFL Strings Roundwounds Case Hardshell Available Modifications None Inlay Oval Pearl Neck, Action and Intonation This is a very sleek and fast neck – much better playing than my Fenders. The necks are similar to most Peavey USA. This stays in tune and is very balanced up the neck. I set the action EXTREMELY low on my basses. Every one of my basses has the bridges strobe tuned (intonated) monthly.
If I were keeping this bass, I'd restring it to my preferred expensive strings. Finish Notes Being an antique collector, I avoid any synthetic polishes. I do not play hard or with a pick. To avoid "buckle rash" I do not wear a belt. The bass is wiped down with a microfiber cloth after use. Periodically Lemon oil is applied to the fretboards. As far as I can tell, the headstock has not been banged.. the body perimeter shows no visible dings or chips. Sound and Tone As with all Peavey premium basses, they have a full sound. Peavey custom shop guitars are known for having a "tuneable" tone. This is a very full and "Punchy" sound. Electronics I have had no issues with pots. This has Cirrus VFL Active electrronics. Blind folded the average person could not tell the difference between this and my $3,000 Custom shop basses. Notables I do not play with a pick. I never had issues with this bass at stage volumes. About Peavey Custom Shop Basses If you've watched Ebay auctions, it is common for Unity, RSB, Sarzo, Early Cirrus, RJ-IV all to close in the $1000+ range. This is due to the botique quality construction, hardware, playability and sound. This is VERY much like an upraded Sarzo or Unity. Condition This guitar has always remained in a climate controlled hard-shell case. This guitar is used and is years old. The gold hardware has slight wear. Please expect it to not be factory perfect. The hardware is shiny from 5 feet and has slight visible wear. I do not use stands and for the best of my knowledge has not been dropped. Overall is a great playng and sounding bass. ================================================== ========================== Storage and Maintenance All of my guitars are stored in hard-shell cases vertically. Before playing, they remain in the case for an hour to acclimate to the environment. After playing, they are wiped down with a microfiber cloth. Truss rod adjustments and intonation are performed annually. To help preserve the factory finish, I do not use any polishes. Natural oils are periodically applied to the fretboards. Shipping You will receive the guitar wrapped in a hardshell case. You will have the option of preimum hadnling via Greyhound OR Standard handling via Fedex Ground… If you have specific shipping requests I am willing to deliver to an UPS store. Insurance costs are not included and your responsibility. Greyhound has the best handling in the transport business, they charge about $50 to transport a guitar. Please allow a week for handling. Cases There are several cases listed on Talkbass.com Capitol Guitars will sell a gig bag for $30. Please let me know if you would like one. Location and 3rd Party Inspection The guitars are located in St. Paul Minnesota you are welcome to visit and play them. If you are a longer distance away, Capitol Guitars will work with you on a 3rd party inspection. To help with my scheduling, please let me know a few days in advance. Payment Paypal is preferred for speed and accuracy. Please include the make/model in both the subject and notes box on your paypal transaction. The B string on mine is magnificient. Very tout and resonant. It really sounds like the same instrument, wich is not all that true for many budget fivers. This is really quasi-boutique at a ridiculous price.
The neck profile is also very fast. Not too shallow or round, not too wide or skinny, just perfect.

Only reason to post this one at a few more bucks than the transparent black one I had listed before is the condition...
It doesn't have any dings or neck wear.
Getting a photograph of the color is tough.. for some reason it appears much brighter in the pix.

NOTE.. Ox told me that the bridge spacing is 16.5 - you can norrow it further with a Cirrus bridge installed.
