REDUCED!: 1981 G&L L1000 Relist.

Sign in to disble this ad
SOLD!

REDUCED TO $800 shipped/insured in the continental US.

Comes with the original case that's in "ok" shape. One latch needs fixing.

Serial#: B001835

The bass itself is in fantastic shape for a nearly 30 year old instrument. See the extensive pix for all the beauty marks. I did a quick setup so I know everything is working fine including the truss rod. Frets are still in real good shape (probably redressed at some point, possibly recently as they're not very worn).

To get a price I've been watching these on eBay. A more worn version of this exact bass just went for over $860 + $80 shipping for a grand total of over $940.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT
I'm going to offer this one on TB for $800 shipped/insured in the Con. US.

Partial trade credit for: EMG 45DC's, 45CS's or a 45P & J set. Markbass amp.

Don't know what I would do if the right Spector were thrown at me (no more Legends please).

Thanks

Off to eBay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=180489388978

If anybody would still want this and we can come to a deal, it will have to be before the eBay reserve is met. At that point I'm commited.

I just got a PM saying these don't look like the original bridge saddles. They do look different than some of the others I've seen on G&Ls. They don't look like they're wrong or functionally incorrect, just different.

They are fine and I don't know what functional difference there would be, but if I find anymore info I will post it.

I've been asked, via PM, how much this weighs.

All the others I've seen in this color/configuration seem to state between 9 to 9 1/2 lbs.

My bathroom scale seems to agree with about 9 lbs.

What's the nut width on this? Closer to a P Bass or a J bass? I know they offered both... Thanks!

Thank you.
Actually, I'd love to see something factual about it. Then we could actually put it to rest. But all I'm getting are a couple of opinions...
....and you know what they say about opinions.

It looks like my quick measurement of 1.75" is wrong.

Went back and researched:
1980 to 1984 they list the nuts as 1 11/16" (an 8th of an inch slimmer than 1.75" which must be what mine is. Sorry.).

1985 they list the nut as 1 5/8" (1 10/16" ).

1986 they list is as 1 1/2" (probably what you're looking for).

1992 & 1993 it's back up to 1 11/16".

I'm not sure if they offered both widths throughout the run, or if the 1 5/8" (1 10/16") listing is just a mismeasure/misprint.

I'm guessing it's either 1 11/16" (mine) or 1 1/2" nut widths that were produced.

In the interest of full disclosure and for those of you that didn't see the original for sale thread on this:

When I received this bass, unbeknownst to me at the time someone had replaced the normal 3 way switch with a two way. It was wired correctly by G&L schematic but was simply the wrong (non-original) switch. Through research and a rather "lively" thread about it here on TB I was able to determine, acquire and install the correct 3 way switch (Even has the cute little red cover. That was harder to find than the switch.).

I retyped the text in this thread (when I lowered the price) from memory (I forgot to "copy" when I deleted the other thread) and just didn't think it was an issue worth meantioning anymore (My analogy was: "If you get a bass with 1 wrong tuning key, and then find and install the correct one, then later sell, is it worth meantioning?").

Someone who's opinion I respect thought it was worth meantioning, so here it is.

So OK, I've answered every question I could. Posted tons of detailed pix. I don't know if every little set screw or whatever is 100% 1981 "Vintage". If you need to know something about this bass, as always before, simply ask.
I will do my best to give you the proper info (as always).

Thank you.

Still my favorite Amp - just plug in a few minor adjustments and Fat Bassy Goodness abounds. I have been playing my Lakland 5 through it and it sounds huge.

I recently started playing my P-Bass with flats through it and it sounds so freaking good - can do no wrong and fills the mix of any style of Music.

The L1000 needs to come East - even if it is for a visit : )
