Relist: 1978/79 Fender Jazz Bass FS/FT

I'm toying with the idea of letting my all original and clean '78-79 jazz go for the right price or cash/trade combination. It's all original and in fantastic shape. Definitely one of the good ones, but I just ran into some money needs and would like to cash in on some of this bass' value (hopefully within the $400-$700+ range, depending).

- Absolutely marvelous tone that can't be duplicated.
- Exceptionally light, right around 9.75lbs with minimal finish checking (only on the back, see pics below).
- Pristine neck, meaty frets, working bullet rod, sets up very well.
- Unmolested electronics, original solder points, pads beneath original grey-bottom pups are squashed, but original (so I don't want to replace them)
- Neck pocket not the tightest, but I've seen worse
- Beautiful faded brown-sunburst over sweet grained ash (which might be a one-piece) w/maple neck and white binding.
- Authenticity verifiable w/ OHSC (matching serials on headstock and untouched sticker beneath pickguard say 1978, pots say 1979)

Pot Codes:
013446 250K A R1377909
Pocket Stamp:
FRR 30
Neck Sticker (no stamp at butt):
FRR 40
Line #5 R. Govea

- Has all the original screws, thumbrest and F-bridge cover with mute intact!
- Replacement chrome pup cover, if you want it
- Would throw in a '75 reissue PG in white, if you like a different look
- Picks in the sunlight really bring out the brown; from afar and in normal light, looks more like a traditional sunburst
- A real beauty, now wearing DR Sunbeams....delicious!

Sale:
$2300 shipped, OBO.

Trades:
Interested primarily in slightly lesser value basses:

-Sad Metros (MS4's, RV's, MV's, P's)
- 70s P's w/maple necks
- Lakland US
- Custom Shop J's
- Nordy 4's
- Lulls

Lower end considerations:
- AMSTD J in OLY White w/maple neck
- 75 reissue J's
- Longshot: An early 1970s Carvin SB60
- No fivers, please.

Unbelievable looking bass. I have the GAS, but nothing you would like....this is even my birth year. Free sweet bass bump.

I have a '78 in this finish. It's my all time "go to" bass. Good Luck with your sale!

Cheers,
Jim

Thanks for all the compliments fellas; they make me want to keep it! At the moment, leaning toward either a straight sale or a lesser value J...

What is that finish. I don't know if I've seen that before? Maybe it's just the pictures.

It's not the pictures. The finish has a dark brown where the black usually is. Very nice when seen in person.

Cheers,
Jim

I believe that Jim's got it right. Also want to let folks know that I'm really on the fence with letting this one go.. Nevertheless, money needs are real, so I'm probably not going to deny a straight sale. Also want to say that one very tempting trade is on the table.

Isn't that Sienna Burst?

I believe that Fender used Sienna Burst for a short time during the 80s and that it's a finish decidedly more red in color. This would be considered Brown Sunburst..
