Joe,
How are you have not seen you on the site in a while!,The original owner lived North of the Boarder,I guess going from cold to warm made the two halfs of the top move a bit,Slight glue joint movement at the seam between the bridge and the Bridge PU.
Mike took care of the movement when the owner took the bass down to him,Ebony is known to move or be a pain sometimes,No big deal at all!,You and the family stay safe while Sandy dumps on us!!

I'm not actually the "original" owner of the bass in question but I was the owner when the top on the bass moved and I was the one who personally took the bass down to Mike Tobias to have repairs made. First of all, there is nothing structurally unsound here folks! Montreal is one of the most unstable places for wood to reside. The humidity changes from summer to winter are extreme. Wood moves, but most laminates will agree to "move together" (contract, expand with changes in humidity). Ebony can sometimes be very stubborn. If it doesn't want to move with the wood it is laminated to then it will either crack or separate at a join. This top is NOT cracked - it simply moved a bit at the join. All it needed was for a bit of glue to be re-injected. I could easily have had the job done here in Montreal but I wanted to make sure that the finish was consistent with the rest of the bass (and so I took it to Mike). For the record, I would have kept this bass if it wasn't a 24 fretter. It is a fantastic sounding MTD - one of the best I've owned/played.

Bass12,
Thanks for clearing the issue up for me,So many question on the top on the bass,I know about the weather,I live where it would make the wood wave like a flag in the climate we have here in Va.
There you go folks with the ? on the top!!,Bass12 has pretty much said it all,Nothing wrong with the bass!!!!!! I am pretty much going to keep this bass if I don`t have an offer that I like,This MTD is so nice and plays like Heaven in a bass!!,Only reason for wanting to trade the bass is im a Smith player at Heart and have been for 25 plus years,So there it is!!!

Yep, nothing like a Smith. This MTD looks really nice though I'll be hanging on to my 5GN for quite some time.
No damage around my area from Sandy however NYC got punished.
