Rick Turner Renaissance Fretless 5-string

I'm not using this as much as I thought I would now that i'm back into playing URB, so I'd rather this go to a good home where it will be used. First off, here's a link to the previous owner's thread:

And in case you miss it, a link to photos:

These basses are amazing instruments from every angle. Excellent playability, unique design approach, and most importantly, the ability to cop a TON of different fretless sounds. The much desired 'mwah' and growl are there in spades, and if you turn up the active tone knob a little bit, the sound is complex and detailed. Leaving the tone knob turned off and plucking by the neck achieves, IMO, a very passable miked-URB/EUB sound on the bandstand.

Comes with a gig bag (I'll pack it so well it'll still be in tune!!), and I'm asking

$1200 shipping and paypal fees incl. To the Contl US only

The ONLY trade I'd consider, plus some cash my way, is one of those roadworn 50's pbasses in two-tone burst.

Thanks for looking!!!!

These are stellar basses. If mine had been fretted there's no way I would have let it go.

Top-notch in every regard.

These things are fantastic, I can't believe anyone sells them. I'm still waiting for a 34" fiver to show up.

If only I actually NEEDED a fretless in any of the projects that I do. That's the only reason I get rid of these. If it's not being gigged, it gets the axe round my house.

Oh the agony!!! I'm sure there's some people out there with very physical GAS pains. I know I went through that before getting into this amazing instrument.

I cut both of my 35" scale Ren fives down to 34". Had to put new fingerboards on them as they were lined.

This one would be perfect for the conversion as it is unlined. Cut an inch off the bottom. Change the side dots and your good to go.

How'd you do that exactly? That sounds like a little more skill than the typical DIY project. The 35" scale doesn't really bother me. The playability of the neck makes up for the extra stretch.

Just cut it off and made new screw holes in the back. Of course there was some sanding to make it nice. I just used a jigsaw.

The two finished basses. One with TI acousticores, the other LaBella black nylon flats for two great fretless sounds.

Did that not affect the intonation slightly?

On a fretless?

Only if you're playing with your eyes

Sure, on an unlined board. Just curious if it did in fact effect the intonation. Not that you HAVE to look at the lines. I never did except when reading while playing fretless. Either way, nice basses!

Perfect for eliciting 'what the @#$% is that?!' comments, both from the tone and aesthetics.

niche instrument? Yes, I think so.

capable of covering any gig, be it rock or jazz, etc? Indeed.

responds GREATLY to technique/touch? More than any bass I"ve ever owned.

PM's returned. Not looking for any trades, unless you have a Roadworn 50's Pbass plus some cash.
