Hi Folks, PRICE DROP - $2,195 shipped CONUS.
I am listing this for a very good friend, and FWIW I completely endorse everything said about this instrument. Here are the specifics... Rob Allen MB-2 4 string lefty, serial number 891. Swamp ash body with walnut top. Rare walnut neck with unlined macassar ebony fingerboard. This is the last walnut necked MB-2 Rob built & the only lefty I have ever seen. It is in new condition; not a scratch anywhere, never gigged or even rehearsed. I'm the original owner. It's been in one room of my smoke free home since I got it. It's very sweet & smooth sounding but will get aggressive if you dig in. A similar bass (with maple neck instead of the discontinued walnut upgrade) would cost $2950 from Rob & take 4-6 months to get. I will let this one go for $2400. Deluxe gigbag & truss rod wrench are included.
The bass comes in a near-new Body Glove bag, which IMO is a better fit than the OEM one Rob uses. However, if you prefer an OEM bag, I will make this happen.
Sales price is $2,400, which includes insured UPS Ground shipping within CONUS. Shipping options for international sales can be discussed. PayPal preferred. No trades, but thanks for asking.
Oven-fresh pictures are below. Thanks very much for your time, and happy shopping!

It is a serious piece of work. I have a lot of thinking to do... Rob allen does great work and Jerry is a great guy. Thank you my friend for letting me try this out. |

If I was a lefty this bass would have been gone is 60 seconds. Very rare to find a RA lefty, and if you dig the RA vibe (I can't live without it - they are my main basses) then it is a no-thinking-required.
Not that I'm hard selling or anything. Actually, I just love Rob's work. Bump for another great example. |

Man, if the seller was open to trades, I have a brand-new lefty Mike Lull V4 in aztec gold, 7.6 lb, sweet as a pear. But I read the listing. |

Can someone please explain the tonal difference with a walnut neck over a Birds eye maple neck on the RA basses? Also, why were walnut necks discontinued?
I played a friends MB-2 with walnut neck/ebony board and walnut top/ash body yesterday. How will a maple neck differ for this bass?

In my experience, the walnut adds a nice bit of focus to the tone, which is certainly beneficial on a semi-hollow instrument. One "complaint" about these basses is that they can be a little boomy...they really do speak in the lows and low mids. Walnut, and certainly the ash body, can organically EQ out this effect. FWIW, by way of comparison, my own MB-2, with a mahogany body and maple top, does sound a bit too happy down low in very live rooms. Nothing that can't be EQ'd out, but no denying it's in there. I hope that helps. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
