It's killing me to do this, but I'm not playing this enough to justify keeping it, and weddings are really expensive. Anyway, I ordered this new from Rob Allen in 2009. It's been gigged infrequently, and is still in incredible condition... I'm not able to find a mark on it anywhere. It's still got the original strings that came on it, and there is a set of new strings still that I purchased with the bass that will be included. It also also comes with the ProTec bag that Rob shipped the bass in.
The specs:
Mouse 30 lined fretless (with tort binding)
Walnut top
Ebony fingerboard and bridge
Light Birdseye Maple neck
Matching headstock
Dunlop Strap Buttons
I'm looking for $1600 shipped CONUS. Please, no trades.

My problem before with a Turner was those "acousticore" strings were pretty floppy ie I couldn't pull off say a fast Donna Lee (not that I'm Jaco ;-) because it was real "loose" and was like trying to play an Ashbory bass. Are these similar "acousticore" kind of strings (which I guess are very light tension strings)? |

I was also unable to find any string tension information on Rob Allen's site, juststrings.com, or La Bella's site.
However, I would describe the tension on the strings as somewhere between moderate and heavy. I know that, when I used to own a Tacoma acoustic bass, I was cautioned against putting black nylon tapewounds on it because I'd heard tales of those strings putting so much tension on the neck that it caused a bow. Perhaps that was a false warning, and obviously, that's of no concern on Rob Allen's stuff.
I can tell you that I dislike loose-feeling strings too, and I've never had any problem with the strings Rob uses.
Sorry for the qualitative answer... let me know if you have any other questions.

They did have a spongy feel that was a little hard to get accustomed to. I replaced them with La Bellas and I thought they felt much better (however, the Acousticores do have a great sound when you dial out some of the highs). Mt guess is that the La Bellas on the Rob Allen would be plenty articulate.
Wish I had 1600. lyin' around! |

It sounds so nice, I could not believe it. And it weighs nothing! Needless to say I fell in love, and swore to myself that if it ever went up for sale that I would get it. Umm... wasn't expecting that it actually was ever going to go up for sale!
I would have to sell my P and my J to afford this one. So going to let it go to someone else. Too bad too, since it would be a local sale!
There is another GTG at the end of June, I wonder if she will make the trip if she is still on the sale block...
Congrats on the engagement by the way! Great article in the Washington Post yesterda about married couples are staying married longer! Married life is the best!
I'll subscribe to keep track of this sale. |

I would happily have brought it to the GTG, but it looks like I've got a buyer lined up. However, he's a local guy, so maybe he'll come out...
Anyway, I'll close this when the deal is sealed.
