Roscoe SKB fretless 6-string FS/FT for AI Ten2 combo

Sign in to disble this ad
*Sorry folks but this one is headed out the door*

Howdy folks. Looking to move my trusty Roscoe fretless 6 string. I love this bass dearly but I have started making my own instruments and I have decided that it isn't in my best interest to play other peoples instruments in public anymore. This is a players bass and is priced that way at 1600$ shipped or 1500$ cash in person. I really dont want to ship this bass if I can help it so I will work with you on picking it up.

This bass was bought from Roscoe (in person actually, very nice man) in 2003 (I think) and the serial number is 4532. This bass was bought, and will be sold, at a small discount due to a blemish on the back of the neck that I will document. There is also one sizable ding on the back of the bass that I will document as well. Other than that this bass is in great shape with only small playing wear. This is a fabulous sounding bass that plays like a dream. You couldn't possibly find a better fretless 6 for the money. At least I hope not

Specs:

-SKB body style

-Swamp ash body with bookmatched quilted maple top

-Cobalt blue finish- looks blue or purple depending on the lighting

-Standard 9 piece bolt-on neck: quartersawn maple, mahogany, purpleheart

-35" scale length

-Diamondwood fingerboard with only slight wear. (this stuff lasts a long time)

-Gotoh tuners

-Hipshot A type bridge with adjustable 18mm string spacing

-2 Bartolini soapbars with 18 volt Bartolini preamp.

Controls are: volume
pickup blend
Concentric mid range knob
outside=midrange level
inside Midrange frequency with push pull
boost
concentric knob
outside= bass boost/cut
inside= treble boost/cut

At the moment I am having a hard time posting pictures so I will figure it out and post them tonight as soon as I can.

Here are some pics. Hopefull they will show up. The blemish behind the "first fret" is where the neck was sanded too far and part of the graphite bar shows through as a black streak. This cant be felt and cant be seen while playing. One lucky byproduct is that the neck has a super slim and fast profile, yet is stable enough that it has never been adjusted and still plays like a dream. I will take pictures of the ding in the back and post them as soon as I can.

Bump for a really great price on a terrific instrument. The cobalt blue finish is absolutely stunning in the flesh, and Roscoe instruments play like butter. This is the perfect combo of woods & electronics for that 'classic' Roscoe sound. It can be warm and sweet, but you'll have no trouble cutting through the mix. Good luck with the transaction.

Happy to add one. I hope you don't mind being patient. This is undoubtedly a terrific instrument, but the market for six-string fretless basses isn't always active (been there...woof). No doubt in my mind that this is the right bass for someone....just a matter of making the connection. Good luck!

Is that thing lined? Can't quite tell from the pics.

Bump anyhow.

God Bless, Ray

No lines on this one. Just sweet open beauty from end to end.

I figure this bass might take a while to move but the good news is the longer I have it the more I get to play it.

The only thing I am really interested in as a trade is an Acoustic Image Ten2 combo.

If anyone wants a closer look go to the photobucket link at the bottom of my second post and you can see much bigger pictures.

Here is an up close pic of the back of the neck. The neck has a truss rod with a graphite (carbon fiber?) stiffening rod epoxied in on both sides. This is where the neck was sanded too thin and one of the graphite stiffening rods shows through as a black streak. The neck is perfectly smooth and hasn't moved in 7 years that I have owned it. This allowed me to buy this bass at a discount that now gets passed down to one lucky winner.

This is a close up pic of the other major ding on this bass. My pic doesn't show it well but this is in the upper inside curve, just on the back side of the bass. It's a pretty nasty gouge but you cant see it from the front and it sounds so good that you wont care.

By the way thats a dime, not a quarter, in the pictures for scale.

String spacing is 18mm. The hipshot A type bridge also has adjustable spacing that allows for slight side to side adjustments as well.

Most Roscoes are 35". Unless this is a "special ordered" 34".

Not sure how likely you'd be to find someone to trade but, if it helps, I've seen one or two AI Ten2s selling on the doublebass side of the forums before.

Nice looking bass.

Sure wish I had the money for this. I just played my SKB-3006 this morning, and it never ceases to make me smile. Dying for a good fretless, but of course no cash! Bump for the lucky one to get this!
