Roscoe SKB 6 string #3805 FS/FT $1850

Sign in to disble this ad
*****SOLD*****

PLEASE DO NOT OFFER OTHER BASSES FOR TRADE. I AM NOT INTERESTED.

PRICE DROP TO: 1700$

Here is a list of things I would be interested in working out a trade for:

-Epifani UL-310 speaker cabinet

-QSC 1804 power amp (or similar size/power amp)

-Epifani quest preamp (2 channel) or other quality 2 channel preamp (No Alembics, already happily own an F-1X)

-Acoustic Image Ten2 combo

- Epifani 502c/902c 2 channel amp (or similar size/quality 2 channel amp

Now that that is taken care of let me show you the goods. I am building my own basses now and I have been slowly thinning the herd as I dont find it practical to play someone else's instruments onstage anymore. This bass is the final bass in the herd and I have struggled over letting it go but I simply never play it out anymore, and for a bass that plays this well that is just not an acceptable fate.

I bought this bass in Jan 1998. The bass was used but only for about 3 months so I am essentially the only owner. When I first saw this bass I actually thought it was one of the ugliest basses I had ever seen (this was before Roscoe had the name they do now) but as soon as I plugged it in I was hooked! This has been my main bass since 1998 and has been played thousands of hours without the slightest issue. In 2003 or so the bass was sent back to Roscoe and an Aguilar preamp was installed and the frets were resurfaced.

First things first. The neck obviously shows some wear from playing but thats just MOJO right? The body also has a few dings and scrubs but nothing that stands out from any distance. The Roscoe hard/soft case that came with it also has a fair amount of wear as well, including some fabric separation by the handle, but still provides adequate protection. One thing that sets this bass apart is the beautiful curly maple used in the neck. I once asked Keith Roscoe about it and was informed that I must have gotten lucky and that it was not an available option for custom basses. (that could very well have changed by now)

Specs:

-Roscoe SKB 3006 #3805

-Mahogany body with accent stripe and flame maple top.

-Tobacco sunburst finish

-curly maple, purpleheart neck w/blistered maple fingerboard.

-35" scale length

-18mm string spacing

-Bartolini pickups w/Aguilar 2 band preamp

-Knobs are: volume, blend, treble, bass

-Weight is 9.5 lbs.

You can see here a couple of nice dings on the back.

These are the worst spots. The rest of the instrument carries just general wear.

Here you see the beautiful curly maple and the thumb wear on the back the neck. I play with a very light thumb so the finish is discolored but completely intact.

For the sake of full disclosure, here are some pictures of the case damage. This is with the tear pulled back as far as it can go.

It looks worse in the picture but the case still functions fine for general transportation. There is also some separation on this corner but the zipper is still intact around the whole case.

Again, the price is now 1700$ shipped and I am NOT interested in trades for other basses.

Now this is one Roscoe that has seen a lot of love. Too bad you have to part with her but I bet she's a tone monster. Good luck wth the sale.

Well, fortunately I don't HAVE to get rid of it but it seems shameful to let it sit and not be heard any more. Fortunately I have the ability to replace it with whatever I can imagine now. Makes it a lot easier to think about parting ways.

I would say this bass is more of a "he" than a "she" in character. It does the modern sound as well as any roscoe but it also has a great hot rod P-bass sound if you dial it in just right. I just got rid of a Roscoe fretless 6 a few months ago and it was definitely more of a "she". (And a damn hot one at that.) This bass has a slightly thicker profile than the fretless neck did and has a slightly rounder, more traditional feeling profile than many high end sixers do. Action is fantastic and low from end to end. This is a particularly comfortable bass for two handed tapping as well. (if you are willing to publicly admit it like me)

Especially interested in ul 310's, series 1 or 2, and 2 channel heads like the 502c/902c.

Tuscaloosa, AL. About an hour south of Birmingham, AL. I can possibly go as far as Atlanta or Nashville if someone is interested in a person to person deal.

As a fellow builder and (half the time) classical bassist, my heart fills with pride as you graduate to the "Only playing my own dang stuff!" club. Oh, and bump for a cool bass. . .

Bump for ya

Thanks Ray. Everybody wants a shiny new one but my fingerboard is a monument to Roscoe tone and playability.

How 'worn' is the fingerboard. Is it mostly just discolored or can you really feel indentations? That definitely is a nice flamey neck ... like the amber hue.

The fingerboard itself is not damaged, it's just that classic maple neck discoloration like you see on older Fenders. You cant feel it under your fingers at all.

That bass sure has been LOVED!

We can't buy it back, but as a comment on the case issue, our present SKB case will fit this bass perfectly, and are readily available from us or via any dealer.

Sorry to see you letting it go, Big B., but kudos for wanting it to have a home where it will continue to be loved! Good luck!

I know what you mean. I've played/owned some basses with maple boards that did that over time. Bet she plays sweet.
