This Sadowsky is a backup and 2nd bass to my main lady, a beautiful alder/braz rw PJ5 with flats, and for my modern-sounding bass needs I think I want to try an MTD with a warmer wood combo.
This is the bass in question: 5138
Amazing bass. Very Smith-like slap tone but with a much more present low end and lowmid kick. Here's a link to the last owner's thread: Sadowsky NYC 24 Fret 5 String Cocobolo on Mahogany Bass
I'm selling this to pickup another TB'ers beautiful MTD 635-24, but do run any trades of an MTD 535/635-24, provided they are NOT ash/maple, wenge/anything, or mahogany. Looking for something different.
Thanks!!! |

I'll sell this bass for exactly what I paid for it, which was $3400 shipped and paypal'd. The bass is wearing the Nordstand Big Singles that I put in it, which I greatly prefer and which give it the ability to get more vintage single coil sounds, but I'll include the Sadowsky Soaps it came with (I paid $150 for the Nordies used) as well.

Pretty simple actually. It's not that this bass leaves anything to be desired. Extremely playable neck with low action and now buzz, a massive sounding B string with impeccable pitch clarity, and in general a very VERY bright and modern tone that really does have a Smith-ish vibe when slapped. On top of that, this wood combo allows a much smoother and thicker fingerstyle tone than does the ash/maple models.
However, for the needs of rounding out my bass stable, it's a little too similar to my Sadowsky NYC PJ5 in that they both have a similar lowmid presence when played fingerstyle, with my PJ5 winning out by a large margin for it's naturally thicker tone and (duh) more 'true Pbass' tone. That being said, dialing the neck pup on the Modern gets a VERY passable P-tone.
I realize that what I want out of my backup 'bright and modern in case I need it' axe is more along the lines of traditional soapbar spacing. And on top of that, I'm seriously considering keeping that bass as a six string in order to do more chordal studies. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
