Let me start by saying, the bass is for sale only. (No trades please!) Sadowsky M5-24- Ash/maple-natural finish-with VTC- It weighs in at 9.1 lbs. The bass is in very good condition, with some minor finish blems. There are fingernail scratches just past (under) the "G" string, as common with most used basses. There are also various minor finish scratches on the front and back, but the bass has to be held under a light at an angle to see them. There is a small speck size nick near the input jack . There is a 1/4" by 3/32" piece of finish missing from the back of the neck. It is quite small and there is no dent or scratch associated with it?? As with any natural finish bass, surface scratches are pretty near impossible to photograph, but although not easily seen, have to be mentioned just the same. I would rate the bass 8.5 out of 10 just for a conservative rating. Please excuse the pictures, but they are pictures taken for my insurance file, and not very detailed. The grain is much more delicious in person!! The bass will ship in a Sadowsky ultra light case that is also in very good condition. SOLD

My next acquisition will either be an axe just like this or a similarly apportioned BN5. If I had the scratch, I'd be hounding you via PM, but instead I'll just have to bump! |

I can't get any pictures in normal daylight since I go to work in the dark, and return in the dark. I tried to use a flash, but with a glossy finish, the pics look all washed out. I took them without a flash, and to be honest, the results were less than stellar. (I would love to know how you all get such great pics of your basses) With that said, I tried to show as much detail as possible. From the pics you can see the top of the headstock is clean, as is the neck. I tried to show that small flaw in the back of the neck finish, but the picture is marginal at best. Also the small nick near the input jack would not show up in a photo. I took about ten of it, and I just couldn't get it to show. You can't really see it, but has to be mentioned just the same. If there is anything that you really need to see, ask, and I'll do my best to show it. I think the pics I took do accurately depict the bass as much as possible. When I rated the bass a 8.5, I did so conservatively. I've seen others on TB rated as such that were nicked, rashed, and chipped. You won't find that here.

Remember, no trades please! | This has to be one of the BEST LOOKING BASSES in the WORLD!

Having thought a bit more of your question, the neck on this bass feels quite similar to my buds 55-94. That may have absolutely no bearing on a JO5 or a DJ5 however, but I thought I would mention it just the same.

Skylines are made in Indonesia (Korea in past years) in moderate quantities and sport acceptable build quality, good price and reasonable electronics for the dollar.
Metros are made by incredibly skilled luthiers in Japan, sport the exact electronics, pickups, bridges, over-all design and meticulous setup as their NY counterparts, and are built in very limited quantities. They are 2 to 3 times as expensive as Skylines, and about 1/2 to 2/3 the cost of NY Sadowskys.
IMHO: Having owned both (Skylines and Metros) I can say the Sadowsky is the better instrument by a long shot. No knock against the Laklands, but if I had about $1K to spend on a new instrument, I'd find a way to scratch up a bit more and pick up a good used Metro for 1/2 again as much. If I had to have new, and only had a grand, then you'd be hard pressed to do better than a good Skyline.

I think the Laklands are a bit overpriced for being made in Indonesia (Korea in past years) and I have a problem with that . I am really thinking of selling my DJ4 and getting a Sadowsky or NYC Empire Bass....

I thought the maple board was a little bright at the time so I'm leaning to a rosewood board for my next try, but this is very tempting... | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
