Guys, I am posting a completely awesome Sadowsky NYC. It is a chambered alder body finished in Candy Apple Orange and has a maple neck with flamed maple board. It is number 5163 (it is not on the sadowsky site), finished in sept 08 with a build price of $4125 for vintage style with flamed board (from Kevin @sadowsky).
I would describe the bass tone as big/warm with some sizzle. It has the hum canceling sadowsky pickups so it is probably a bit more scooped then if it were loaded with single coils, which make it great for slapping. I have used it for the worship sets at church and it was great.
The bass comes with a Sadowsky portabag gigbag, which is also one of my favorite gigbags to date. The previous owner really played this thing, not abused but played. The neck has a nice broken in feel, the bottom of the fingerboard has some slight discoloration (best I can describe it) from playing and there is one ding that I have pictured. There are no other dings but there are some small surface flaws that cannot be pictured. Overall I would rate this bass 8.75 cosmetically and 9.5 tonally. Has new Sadowsky black labels on it. $2899 shipped.
As far as trades, I only play fivers and the only thing on my GAS list is Sadowsky (alder/RW with single coils), AC LG5, MTD535 or the right Smith. Since I used Vic's pics he has first dibs.

It is killer though and very similiar in spec to an AC RA, except the body is chambered. Oh, and I do believe this is like 7.8 lbs or something. pretty light.

| | There's more music in the nuance than the notes. Staff, Bass Gear Magazine | | Join Date: Oct 2002 Location: Central Illinois | | Folks, just as an FYI, the timing on this one is just insanely bad for me, so don't worry about the "dibs" Cory mentioned. No way I can exercise them in this time frame.
However, I can tell you this is a (I guess yet another) great sounding bass. I was very surprised at how big and warm this bass is in the low end. Must be that chambered alder. Despite the added bite of the 70's spacing, this bass has much more "classic" tone than you might think, VERY big round low end! Everything else seemed pretty even keeled to me... the mids have the typical Sadowsky presence, and the high end is more sizzly than grindy. I'd say despite the added edge of the maple board and 70's spacing, it's generally a bit smoother up high than an ash/maple bass. Again, I think that's got to be that chambered alder body. What I find interesting is, the added warmth makes favoring the bridge pickup more strongly a LOT more "effective", and it's really interesting to have the bite of 70's spacing with that extra "depth" at the same time.
Bottom line is, this thing has a big warm yet punchy fingerstyle tone, and an amazingly sweet slap tone. It's a little different spec than what you mostly see, but IMHO, it's WAY cool!!
I give full unreserved props to both the bass and of course Cory. You won't do better than either. |

The sadowsky has a big warm bottom with high end sizzle and the nordy vj5 is a low mid monster. The nordy is not as big down low and does not have the high sizzle, but has as low mid presence that I haven't heard on any other basses. I think that is due to the big singles pickups. The nordy is a more growly due to this and the sadowsky is smooth. Hope that helps.
