For Sale :(... 2001 Fender Deluxe P5 and '83 G&L El-Toro
With a heavy heart I put up 2 basses that I really love. My girlfriend lost her great paying job in January, we thought she'd be making more money by now and bills are stacking up so one or both of these have to go. If one sells I may choose to yank the other. Both prices don't include shipping. I prefer USPS insured which tends to run $80-$100.
1) 1983 Mahogany G&L El-Toro bought off the forums. Since I purchased it I've done some work. Wax potted the pickups ( you can find the tutorial here) and sent it out for a fret level, polish and setup. It's a great bass and sounds killer ( No exaggeration...) A very focused , mid present L-2000 and looooooud!. The sound kills! It's in very good condition for a bass from the 80's. Some assorted dings and scuffs but all in all it's pretty clean. I've pictured some of the worst and can take more if you would like. $875
The luthier I sent it to stated that the fretboard has a slight ramp at the end of the neck and to get the action down to low would require a fretboard level and refret. It's currently dialed in for medium low. Otherwise the neck it beautiful and straight with properly working truss rod. I had planned on getting this done by Mike Lull but had to put it on the back burner.
2) 2001 Fender Deluxe P-Bass 5. Older model with 5 in-line tuners, Alder body, rosewood board and graphite reinforced neck. Upgrades include Sadowsky Preamp with VTC ( Love!) and Nordstrand NP5 fender pickup ( kinda hard to get) Bridge pickup is stock Fender... these are hard to find replacements for. This bass is very clean with no issues, a straight neck and properly working truss rod. Great bass that I had been lusting after for years. I'd love to keep this but I've got a Lull P/J5 that I like just a little more. $1300

Reason: More pics up
The El-toro kills, the mahogany ones are especially sweet. As is it is a good player but like I said , it'll take a little work to get the action screaming low. The Deluxe p-Bass just feels great and is pretty amazing with the Sadowsky/Nordy guts. Definitely a grail bass for quite a while
I'm holding on to my L-2500 (ill never sell it) , Lull P/J5 and Ibanez ATK 805. Once we get our finances cleared up ill start hoarding again for sure .
The El-Toro is absolutely killer. I love my L-2500 but the El-Toro is tonally what I wish that bass could be. It has that G&L sound with more focus and a great low mid presence.
I was messing with the Deluxe P the other day and have to say I really dig that one too. Much more of a hi-fi sound than my Lull but can get that P-Bass woof when you roll on the neck pickup. Totally loving it in passive mode with the tone rolled back through my Mesa Big Block... Fun!
Might consider putting up my Lull and seeing which one sells first. I like my Fender but the Lull is pretty special. I think I traded a Status 5 for it and don't regret it one bit.
