For Sale 83' MIJ Squier Precision Bass -400

Sign in to disble this ad
This is an "SQ" series Squire Precision Bass made between late 1983 and early 1984. From Fender's Web site: "The SQ Squier series was introduced in late 1983/early 1984. The SQ Squier series was based more on 1970s Fender models and also had Japanese made pickups installed. SQ + 5 digits 1983-1984". Made in Japan Fenders of this era are considered almost universally to be equivalent to US construction with the exception of the electronics after 1982. That's the case with this P-Bass when I compare it with my 2 US made Fender basses. Construction is as good as my 96 fretless American made, for example. There are no issues with the electronics (pots are okay, both sides of the split pickup are working) and I just had it completely checked out and set up.

The only issues are that pick guard is cracked around the tone pot,its all intact and nothing will fall off but its there , and there is some light scuffs and buckle rash here and there, nothing too noticable,id give it a 8/10 in cosmetics.
On the other hand:
- neck is perfect: no playability issues or gouges at all.frets are really clean and barely has wear on them.
- electronics all work, no scratchy noises, etc.
- strings are set very low for fast play, slap, etc.
- complete checkout and setup by Eric Chaz just two months ago.
Had it recently set up for low action and it plays great,is also strung up with flatwounds.Selling for 380 with tweed gigbag or 435 with a skb hardshell case

i took these pics with a sucky camera phone but i assure u guys it sais made in japan under the logo.

380.00?

Wow

Many of the CIJ's from the early 80's I hear are better made them the MIA's of this era.

Let me say another comment regarding my 83 SQ series. My last gig was last Wednesday. Another band opened for us and the bass player played on my gear. Eden with 410 Ampeg. He had a 69 MIA Fender P. Sounded really nice. So we recoreded this gig and when I went back and listened to it MY CIJ SOUNDED WAY BETTER! Ok this is very subjective, and I did a few mods like a new bridge and Loller type pick up (actually Budz) but this bass for 380.00 bucks...a few mods this bass will hang with ANY other MIA Fender IMHO. Best thing I did is get one of these.

Depends what you have in your arsenal

If you have no vintage P's..cause this is older then 25 years I would keep it.

It was my first time gigging with a P, and this baby had MOJO like a MOFO! I had seveal people compliment me on my bass tone, first time that has happened. I usually play a MIA jazz, but never had the compliments I had with this. Eithier way if you keep it, or whomever buys it will love it! Yours in really good shape too!
