Hey all,
today is a sad day as I have to move out my Big Al for tuition reasons. This has been my pit gig/recording bass for the past 8 months and it sounds incredible, and the ergonomics and balance are superb.
Perfect condition - not a scratch, except for a very tiny dent on the back of the neck. I can barely feel it with my thumb, and it's impossible to photograph. Weighs in at a super light 8.0 lbs - you'd be hard pressed to find a lighter Music Man!
Mahogany body, maple fingerboard, ceramic coil humbucker. Matching headstock ($150 upgrade). OHSC included, it has a couple of nicks and dents (shell and locks are fine), but nothing serious.
The preamp controls are as follows:
Knobs: master volume, passive tone, low-mid/high-mid (stacked), bass/treble (stacked).
Buttons: Parallel/Series, Active/Passive! PRICE DROP: $1350$1200 shipped in Canada or CONUS.
Cheers,
Chris

The sound of the Big Al is really a mix between the Sterling and Bongo. Imagine a mahogany-bodied sterling (same humbucker and coil material) that, characteristic of the Sterling, has a bit more warmth and a less aggressive tone. The huge-sounding Bongo preamp has a lot of headroom, and a lot of bass, should you need it. It's a great recording bass and can cover a lot of ground. The maple adds a touch more tightness to the warm sound, resulting in a well-balanced bass.
I used to own a Sterling but found it to be too hot, and this bass is characteristically a bit warmer and darker, especially running it in parallel with the high mids cut a bit and boosting the bass and low mids. It is possible to get a pretty snarly, aggressive tone however. I'll record some video/sound clips on the weekend.
Cheers
Chris

Thanks

The more I play this bass now the more I'm feeling that it's like if a Sterling and a Bongo had a love child.

This bass is still available!
