For Sale FBASS BN5

Sign in to disble this ad
Straight up BN5:

- Ash Body with grain enhancement
-Maple neck and board
-Proprietary preamp (vol/vol, single coil/humcancelling tap, passive tone, active/passive, boost only bass, mid, treble)
-Stacked coil pups that go either single coil or humcancelling
-19mm spacing
-*Tara Lab shielded wires to the pups and unshielded to the output jack* This is a rarely done upgrade that George and I developed to improve clarity and widen frequency range. I have it in my FBasses and its usually about a $300 (approx) upgrade.

Have to make room for something thats coming ...with 2 BN5s here one of them has to go. My other BN5 has several special upgrades which is the only reason this one is here. This is a killer bass that George and I used as a standard reference bass for quite a while.
No dings that I can see, just a few fine shallow scratches in the finish.

$2100 plus shipping. Includes Fbass gigbag.

Thanks for looking!

WOW! This one hurts. I know the history of this bass. This is the BN5 that helped develop what the current BN5s have become. This was the standard by which not only BN5s were judged and scrutinized for the last few years, but many other high end boutiques as well. Mitch and George have this bass "zoned-in", it sounds and plays damn near perfectly.

The few times I played this one I always thought that this bass had something special, more so than other BN5s. It's about the most organic sounding BN5 I have ever heard. I'd buy it this second if I had the cheese.

I can't believe this one is on the block. What a killer deal, this won't last long. Not to mention, you couldn't buy a bass from a cooler, more stand-up cat if you tried.

Cheers,
Paul

Thanks Paul for the nice words....

I have some things coming that I need to make room for, plus I wont have to be BN5-less when this sells, so it wont hurt as much as it could have.

That said, I'll still miss it for the reasons you mentioned.

Hello,

I am interested in your bass. In what condition is it? And in what year?

Thanks,

Regards

Max

Can't disagree at all. I love my Roscoes (most of the time) but played a bunch of F basses in Montreal almost the same week I got the Roscoes and knew that I had made a mistake. Just renewed my subscription so I'll see if there is interest in my Roscoes.

Wow, killer BN5 Mitch! You always gots the good stuff

This is a great price on such a hot F bass, the wiring upgrades sound really interesting, I'd like to hear more about that, and the overall effect vs stock wiring.

Best of luck with the sale, if I didn't already have 2 F's, I'd be on it

Hey Steve, Roscoes are nice basses too...I'm usually partial to a single coil option though on a bass. The thing i love about the Fs is that they have their own thing, not quite like anything else out there.

Hey Jake- thanks!

The Tara Labs make a difference...I would say significant rather than drastic. The Tara Lab thing was not to make up for anything we didnt hear, it was additive to see where it would go. I dont know exactly now how many have the upgrade but its only several ...overall the the bass is slightly clearer and maybe a touch more open. The mids seems to have smoothed and the high end a little glassier . Bottom end may be slightly bigger too. Again, not drastic but noticeable to me.

Interesting about the wiring upgrade, I've been thinking about sending my BN6 back to George for an overhaul (refin, truss rod repair, fretwork etc...), perhaps I'll add the wiring to the laundry list. But for what all that would cost, I could almost buy another one

Hi , its in excellent condition and plays great. Like I mentioned above it has no significant dings as far as I can see, and has a few fine scratches only in the finish. George replaced the strap buttons and cleaned the cavity a few days ago. Its a 2001 I believe. I am the original owner.

Alot of fun this year, and pretty relaxed (at least for me).

Hope to see you there next year...and hope you are doing well yourself.
If you get the Tara Labs in let me know what you think.
