For sale: refinished Wishbass Claw ***Price Drop***

Sign in to disble this ad
Here's another one of my refinished Wishbasses that I've decided to sell. Asking price is now $800 plus shipping.

This one is a 'Claw' model, #1165 and I've done a lot of reshaping and contouring to produce what I think is a very well balanced and good looking, almost mainstream (if that's possible with a Wish') bass.

You'll see I've replaced the EMG J select with a Delano Xtender, which is a great p-up, great tone and flexibility.

You'll find all the build details, photos and a video demo on my web-site www.davesbassplace.com or click here.

Feel free to ask any questions you might have.

Specifications:
Make: Wishbass
Model: “Claw” fretless
Serial: #1165
Condition: Used, refinished
Truss Rod: no
Scale: 34” (2½+ octaves)
Body: Maple
Neck: Five piece, through neck: Mahogany, Maple, Purpleheart
Fingerboard: Ipe, 20” radius
Finish: TruOil, hand rubbed; gloss
Pick-up: Delano Xtender (2 coil humbucker)
Controls: Volume and tone, 3-way micro switch (split/series/parallel)
Bridge: Floating, Moon Ebony
Nut: Ebony, 1 & 7/8th inches
Strings: Roundwound, through body. (45-105)
Weight: 8lbs 2oz (on my postal scale)

As some of you already know I’ve made a hobby out of refinishing Wishbasses and on occasion I’ll buy one to refinish and then end up selling it, to refill my kitty to buy.....another Wishbass! This bass is one of those. although I've been very tempted to keep it to play out.

A Wishbass like this one, custom ordered would cost you $445 (including shipping) from Wishbass, but of course that wouldn’t include a full refinish and a new Delano pick-up.

If you are looking at this item, then you probably know a little about Wishbasses, some of the myths and a lot of the upside! If you don't then I'd recommend that you do some research before you bid. The Wishbass Club at www.talkbass.com is a good place to start for information. I have also posted build photos of my refinishing work, including this particular bass at www.davesbassplace.com (click on refinishing). Please note: this is not a production bass guitar, it is a one-off, hand-made bass; no two Wishbasses are alike. You should also visit www.wishbass.com for more info.

Appreciate that. I'm really happy with how it's come off. It's certainly the most 'mainstream' Wishbass I've done.

It's been very hard not to get attached to this one, particularly after hearing how good the p-up sounded. I previously had a claw, which I 'cut off' because the wood around it was pretty knotty and it wasn't possible to smooth and refin it without losing the shape (that became the 'Thunderbone'). This Claw however was a solid piece of wood and smoothed and shaped out really nicely.

Jaw-Dropping Refin! This IS your best one yet! Are there position markers along the neck?

Yes, aluminum dowels. I'll get you some pics for you later.

BTW if anyone is wondering about my 'mutilated' Wishbass comment, I'm having a little puerile fun. Someone said I was mutilating art by doing these refins!

I recently purchased one of Dave's reworked Wishbasses; can't say enough how about how awesome it is. I'm tempted to grab this one! Highly recommended.

They look to be good, while I don't get my ruler out and measure, I do check position 12 and below with my Peterson tuner. I do the same for the 24th.

Closer view of the contols; a stacked volume/tone, 3-way micro-switch and front jack input.
