For sale: Stambaugh 4 string Ampeg AEB-1 type bass

I am reluctantly listing this for sale. As much as I love it, I haven't played one salsa gig in 2012 and this bass should really be played. It is a cool alternative to bringing the baby bass to gigs, or, since it has a P pickup, it would work in other styles too. It has a shorter sustain than a standard P though. The 'mystery' pickup was built by Mike Smyth at MJS pickups based on an original Ampeg 'Devil' bass pickup. The bloodwood was chosen to simulate the sunburst finish, and the ebony was chosen to simulate the pickguard. He even put a stringer around the ebony to capture the vibe of the multi ply guard.

-MJS 'mystery' pickup
-African mahogany body
-Bloodwood facing
-Ebony face inlay
-Morado board with maple binding and dots
-Bartolini P Pickup
-Passive with Vol, Vol, Tone, Tone

With this pickup system, the mystery pickup can be soloed, the P pickup can be soloed, and the two can be used together. One thing it can't do is have one pickup all the way up and the other blended in slightly. If both are used together, they will both be full volume.

The mystery pickup had to have a large cover , and it is the same ebony as the inlay, but the grain is different. (you can see in the pics)

I am very impressed with the wood working on this bass. The inlay is insane and the construction is amazing. The details on this bass are breathtaking.

Price is $2250 shipped.

Ha. Well, the bathroom is the brightest lit in the house, so I take most of my gear for sale pics in there.

I would be interested in a lightweight (9lbs or less) 6 string with 18.5 or 19mm string spacing for trade.

nothing else needed toward a partial trade???

BTW the volume only works with both pickups on full then what does second volume control actually do. is it just a toggle in essence. do the tone controls work independently. was this by design or just a result of whatever the mystery pickup is?

When one pickup is used, it's corresponding volume control works as normal. When both pickups are on, they are just full on, and the volume controls don't really do much. The tone knobs work independantly whether one or both pickups are used. If you wanted to blend them, a buffer can be used. Somehow...I don't know the specifics, but Chris said he could make it work.

Feel free to run any trades by me
