I am reluctantly listing this for sale. As much as I love it, I haven't played one salsa gig in 2012 and this bass should really be played. It is a cool alternative to bringing the baby bass to gigs, or, since it has a P pickup, it would work in other styles too. It has a shorter sustain than a standard P though. The 'mystery' pickup was built by Mike Smyth at MJS pickups based on an original Ampeg 'Devil' bass pickup. The bloodwood was chosen to simulate the sunburst finish, and the ebony was chosen to simulate the pickguard. He even put a stringer around the ebony to capture the vibe of the multi ply guard.
-MJS 'mystery' pickup
-African mahogany body
-Bloodwood facing
-Ebony face inlay
-Morado board with maple binding and dots
-Bartolini P Pickup
-Passive with Vol, Vol, Tone, Tone
With this pickup system, the mystery pickup can be soloed, the P pickup can be soloed, and the two can be used together. One thing it can't do is have one pickup all the way up and the other blended in slightly. If both are used together, they will both be full volume.
The mystery pickup had to have a large cover , and it is the same ebony as the inlay, but the grain is different. (you can see in the pics)
I am very impressed with the wood working on this bass. The inlay is insane and the construction is amazing. The details on this bass are breathtaking.
Price is $2250 shipped.
