So, somebody shake me hard before I do something stupid.
Like a lot of people, I built custom basses with the intent of keeping them forever and ever. And, like a lot of people, my tastes, financial situation, and physical abilities have changed, leading me to list those same custom basses for sale. Right now, my financial situation is not pretty.
I think I must be insane because I waited a long time for this beauty and was ecstatic when I got it. Chris Stambaugh is an artist - he builds amazing creations that sound and play like basses 4-5 times the price. That being said, with some recent hand problems I've been having, I have found that chunkier necks feel more comfortable, and the Stambaugh definitely has a slim neck. Both a Jazz-width nut and a slim overall profile.
The body is an amazing piece of African mahogany - look at that grain! The top is figured myrtle that I picked out from Oregon Wildwood. 5-piece neck-through with two purpleheart stringers. Chechen fingerboard. Special gold mother of pearl block inlays with white mother of pearl edges. I picked these so that the gold MOP would match the top wood and the white MOP would match the chrome hardware. Kent Armstrong lipstick style single coil J pickups, Bartolini 3-band preamp and all Hipshot chrome hardware. Recessed straplocks. This bass sounds amazing. It's also super lightweight and the satin neck feels awesome (despite being too thing for my gorilla hands.) Chris even put a macassar ebony binding around the fingerboard and did black pinstriping between the body/top woods and on the matching headstock. Gorgeous! Overall excellent condition. Pickups slightly scratched from strings.
I paid about $2800 for this bass. I would consider $2300 shipped or best offer
to be a fair price. This includes a TKL hard case.
I am open to negotiation, within reason. I realize custom basses are a hard sell since they are specifically tailored to the original owner. That being said, there's always the off-chance that someone happens to thinking about a custom build similar to this one and might want to save themselves some money and a long wait by buying pre-owned.
Here are things I am interested in, trade-wise. Four string fretted only, please. I cannot add cash to a trade, and would be more open to trades where cash will be added on your end.
-USA Laklands (rosewood or ebony board, prefer birdseye maple dot inlays)
-Xotic XJ-1T (maple board, prefer Luminova dot inlays)
-Maybe a vintage Fender Jazz - all original
-Maybe a G&L - just not L2000 or M2000 since I just ordered one of each
-Anything else interesting. Run anything by me - I won't be offended. I would also consider a triangular (three person) trade/sale[/b]
...and the obligatory picture of me rockin' the Stambaugh in a Uriah Heep shirt! (Sleeping on the job, apparently.)
